Truecaller, the world’s leading caller ID and spam-blocking app, is under fire like never before. Its stock value has plummeted, and with the competition in the market increasing by the day, times are tough. Yet, even in the face of these hurdles, the company has made strides to adopt new features that improve user safety, particularly for families. This function allows one family member to be a designated administração. Most importantly, they can take control against the tide of incoming fraud calls and eliminate this for all members of the household.
Truecaller has helped over 450 million people around the world. Since then, as of December 2025, the company has rolled out this feature across countries like Sweden, Chile, Malaysia, and Kenya. Last year, the company flagged more than 7.7 billion scam calls. This shocking number underscores the dire need for stronger defenses against phone scams.
The company’s new family safety feature is particularly aimed at helping users monitor elderly relatives. Respond admins can be alerted if there’s fraud call headed to their loved ones and take action if needed. This feature allows family members worried about loved ones who can’t answer a call because they’re driving or walking to stay in touch while keeping everyone safe.
Truecaller’s announcement that it will roll this out worldwide, including in India – its biggest market – is therefore puzzling. This action comes as the company finds itself embroiled in a multitude of other regulatory difficulties. The introduction of India’s Caller Name Presentation (CNAP) system could potentially hinder the app’s functionality by displaying caller names as registered with phone carriers.
Rishit Jhunjhunwala, Truecaller’s Chief Business Officer, commented on the implications of CNAP:
“In India, there has been much talk about the imminent rollout of CNAP.” – Rishit Jhunjhunwala
He further noted that while CNAP is only partially implemented, its impact on user growth remains uncertain:
“CNAP is partially rolled out, and so far, the impact on our user growth is limited. As we have said in the past, we expect that CNAP might have some impact on user growth, but that remains to be seen as CNAP reaches a full rollout.” – Rishit Jhunjhunwala
The creation of the Indian Voicemail feature has been a significant step forward for Truecaller. This feature uses an AI assistant that can pick up calls when users can’t answer, sending a summarized transcript of the conversation. This kind of innovation will go a long way to serving the experience that users expect while tackling the growing epidemic of fraud calls.
Truecaller hurt by the harsh operating environment during its Q4 2025 report. The company announced a 49% year-on-year decline in EBDITA and a 31% decline in advertising revenue. The company’s stock has tanked by more than 80% over the last year. This sudden drop has raised serious concerns among investors about the company’s long-term sustainability.
Kunal Dua, Truecaller’s Director of Communications, discussed the broader implications of fraud on individuals and families:
“I think, unfortunately, all of us know somebody or another in our families or friends who have been impacted by fraud.” – Kunal Dua
Despite concerns raised by privacy advocates, Truecaller insists privacy will remain intact with their new family feature. Admins will be unable to view any non-spam call history or SMS history of group members. This measure seeks to protect the wary user—the user who, without this feature, might be too afraid to share their call details with their loved ones.
As Truecaller faces mounting pressure from regulatory changes and competitive applications like WhatsApp and Telegram, which are subject to new policies such as SIM binding in India, the company’s ability to adapt will be crucial. These initiatives may make the app more cumbersome and limit its growth of users.
The recent announcements regarding features and challenges were discussed at an event held in San Francisco, California from October 13-15, 2026. As Truecaller continues to evolve its offerings in response to user needs and regulatory landscapes, stakeholders will be watching closely to see how these changes impact its user growth and overall market presence.
