Nscale, a British AI infrastructure company, reached a staggering $14.6 billion valuation recently. This extraordinary achievement makes Nscale one of Europe’s newest decacorns, alongside other prominent startups such as Helsing and Mistral AI. The company’s valuation tripled after its last two funding rounds. In September they raised a giant $1.1 billion in a Series B led by Aker, then followed that up with an almost unbelievable $2 billion Series C with participation from some of the biggest investors.
Strikingly, the successful Series C raised a record-shattering $2 billion. This funding was comprised of a pre-Series C SAFE of $433 million led by industry stalwarts Blue Owl, Dell, Nvidia, and Nokia. This funding will enable Nscale to realize its ambitious plans to develop its AI infrastructure capabilities throughout Europe. Nscale has locked in a $1.4 billion delayed draw term loan. This GPU-backed loan will support the creation of new clusters across Europe.
Nscale’s growth trajectory has been equally phenomenal. This is its latest update, which zooms in on its ambitious project, “Stargate Norway,” to have 100,000 Nvidia GPUs running by the end of 2026. OpenAI has already committed to being one of the first customers for this groundbreaking initiative. Nscale is supercharging its growth plan with a new long-term deal with Microsoft. In partnership with Dell, they will be launching nearly 200,000 Nvidia GPUs over three data centers in Europe and one in the U.S.
Those recent successes have led some big names to Nscale’s board. Sheryl Sandberg and Nick Clegg being some of the most recent additions that have made the company’s continued strengthening of its leadership all too apparent. Øyvind Eriksen, president and CEO of Aker, who joined Nscale’s board, was even more enthusiastic about the transition of management.
“This step strengthens execution by putting delivery and governance under one roof, while keeping continuity for the people and projects already underway.” – Øyvind Eriksen
Nscale will also assume complete operational control of Aker’s joint venture. We expect this change will reduce operational overhead, while increasing alignment and focus on ongoing work. Nscale’s mission is to capture this accelerating demand from enterprises and the increasing access to low-cost renewable energy. At the same time, it’s dedicated to reusing waste heat, fostering local skills, and investing in regional infrastructure as important pieces of its Stargate Norway endeavor.
This rapid influx of capital and Nscale’s strategic partnership positions the startup as a key player in the AI infrastructure sector. The company’s focus on sustainability and innovation reflects a growing trend among tech firms to integrate environmental considerations into their business models. By harnessing renewable energy and effectively managing resources like waste heat, Nscale aims to set a new standard in the industry.
Nscale is on the leading edge of AI every day. Its collaborations with big technology companies and targeted funding investments will be key to accelerating growth in the coming years. Nscale has the potential to be at the forefront of this emerging AI infrastructure market. This positive outlook is because of their cutting-edge technology solutions and dedication to socially-responsible practices.
