Bernt Børnich, the CEO of 1X from Norway, has integrated NEO into his home to assist with various household tasks. The robot handles chores such as vacuuming as well as removing dishes and cups. It demonstrates a potent combination of self-driving technology and operator-driven supplement. Børnich noted that NEO is improving with each iteration on household tasks. Yet, it could still use a touch assistance every once in awhile to get things done right.
NEO’s #smarttechnology introduction comes at a time when interest in smart home technology is growing rapidly. Bolstered by substantial financial backing from tech behemoths such as Nvidia, 1X is planning to introduce NEO as a general-purpose robot for the home. In fact, during NEO’s testing phase, this artificial intelligence even had to learn how to properly water plants. It did make one high profile spillage, which got a divided reception from Børnich’s family. The robot was shown making a peanut butter sandwich or folding T-shirts in around 90 seconds. In doing so, this demonstrates its tremendous potential utility and versatility in all aspects of our daily lives.
NEO is controlled with the help of immersive virtual reality (VR) headsets and motion sensors. These tools unlock intuitive control and training capabilities that helps users easily command the robot. This technology enables Børnich and his family to guide NEO through various activities while providing immediate feedback on its performance. By providing this real-world training experience, 1X hopes to shape NEO’s talents and work through any performance-related growing pains.
As part of this endeavor to optimize efficiency, 1X is currently developing a custom-built, robot glove. This advanced technology will help NEO take on a greater variety of advanced physical challenges. This innovation contributes to improving NEO’s accuracy of movement. With this enhanced dexterity, NEO is able to respond to new tasks such as ironing and loading the dishwasher!
