Just Eat UK has further developed the trials for innovative delivery robots. These four-legged machines are quite adept at navigating difficult urban landscapes, like navigating over stairs. The new initiative includes collaborations with ten Milton Keynes and Bristol based restaurants. It’s a groundbreaking new development in the growing autonomous delivery space.
RIVR has created four-legged robots, each equipped with wheels on their legs. This unique design allows them to overcome all types of challenges found in real city settings. The trial aims to assess their effectiveness and efficiency in delivering food orders from local eateries straight to customers’ doors.
Eight independent restaurants in Bristol are participating in the event. Other well known participants include Jolly Fryer, Chicken Mews, Bishopston Fish Bar. Back home in Milton Keynes, two of those businesses—12th Street Burgers & Shakes and Moores Fish & Chips—are piloting the delivery technology. The robots wear a bright orange Just Eat box on top, guaranteeing brand awareness during each delivery.
Marko Bjelonic, chief executive of RIVR, said the collaboration would enhance the development of autonomous delivery systems. He stated, “This is an important step in scaling autonomous delivery across European cities.” This effort reflects a growing practice among food delivery services. It attempts to increase the convenience level for both restaurants and consumers.
The robots are now being tested on actual streets as part of pilot programs, giving developers a unique look at how their robots perform under real-world conditions. A comparable pilot program in Switzerland recently wrapped up almost 1,000 autonomous deliveries without incident. This incredible outcome is a testament to what this exciting technology is capable of doing in urban markets.
Bjelonic further highlighted the significance of the Milton Keynes launch, noting that it “reflects a shared focus on practical, automated delivery that integrates seamlessly into existing operations.” The trial is an example of a creative, pro-active approach to meeting the shifting needs and requirements of growing urban food delivery.
Just Eat UK is currently running tests and very much looking to the future with delivery drones in Ireland. This action demonstrates their fierce determination to implement new, advanced technology into their service offerings. With rapid urbanization, such innovations can greatly change the movement of food delivery throughout urban areas.
