Just Eat UK Trials Four-Legged Delivery Robots in Urban Environments

Just Eat UK has been the first to truly deploy four-legged delivery robots in real, bustling city environments. Their mission is to transform the food delivery industry. This cutting-edge army of robots was created in partnership with RIVR. They can rapidly scale daunting urban barriers such as staircases, opening up attractive delivery use cases.

Trials are still ongoing in Milton Keynes and Bristol. This year, ten independent restaurateurs are rolling up their sleeves and getting deeply involved in the process. Prominent businesses participating in the Milton Keynes trial include 12th Street Burgers & Shakes and Moores Fish & Chips. Meanwhile, in Bristol, eight restaurants such as Jolly Fryer, Chicken Mews, and Bishopston Fish Bar are testing the robots’ capabilities.

Each robot has four legs with tiny tires on the feet of each leg. This special design enables them to slide easily over rocks, mud, and other obstructions. Just last month, a robot successfully traversed a staircase of outdoor brick steps on a short grass bank. This hoodwinking feat is a testament to its power to revolutionize urban deliveries.

According to Marko Bjelonic, chief executive of RIVR, that makes this collaboration especially noteworthy. He stated that it represents “an important step in scaling autonomous delivery across European cities.” Wishful thinking about this trial touches on a bigger story about customer reaction to food delivery services. Companies are lining up to use this technology to make their businesses more efficient.

“The launch in Milton Keynes reflects a shared focus on practical, automated delivery that integrates seamlessly into existing operations.” – Marko Bjelonic, chief executive of RIVR

Just Eat UK and RIVR are partnering on a program that’s both innovative and exciting. This collaboration builds on a nearly 1,000 autonomous delivery successful pilot in Switzerland. With demand for delivery services skyrocketing, such initiatives are popping up all over Europe. On-demand delivery drones are being recently tested in Ireland. This change represents a step toward greater automation in the logistics industry.
