End-Tech Triumphs to Reach National Lego Finals

End-Tech, an Energy team of five students from Endon High School in Staffordshire, has won their regional competition. As a result, they’ve qualified for their seat at the first Lego League UK National Final later this year. Please join us in congratulating our nimble environmental justice dream team, and … Read the full story James, Malachi, Ethan Saunders and Owen are preparing to help Staffordshire make their mark at the country’s premier national tournament in Harrogate.

The competition was intense, with End-Tech ultimately winning out against a slew of other impressive teams, including a formidable entry from Bradford. Malachi noted that this year’s competition was tougher than ever. As he went on to explain, “The competition was definitely more fierce this year, because everybody stepped up their game. The competition was fierce, but End-Tech’s efforts and unique approaches truly stood out. Consequently, they secured the well-deserved title of winners at this stage of the competition for the second year running.

The team dedicated substantial time both during and after school to code and build their robot, which was equipped with advanced color sensors. Owen explains, “We have an all-new robot fitted with color sensors this year. This factor alone has greatly increased the user-friendliness of our robot! This amazing technological advancement inspired the robot to develop huge leaps over obstructions and perform responsibilities introduced through the judges much more successfully.

On the day of the competition, End-Tech’s robot went through a gauntlet of challenges. The team had to present their work in a PowerPoint presentation about their robot, one required component of the competition. They were judged according to the tasks their robot was able to accomplish, which only increased the intensity and stakes of this competitive event.

James described the mood on the day as “nail-biting.” The rivalry between the teams was fierce as they crowded around the board table to watch their little bots go to work on the tasks outlined. The level of excitement and engagement was the same among competitors and supporters, both of whom came out in droves.

End-Tech has an eye on the national finals. Most importantly, they’re all working hard to play a lot of their skills and make their robot even better! For instance, Malachi explained how they transitioned to a new coding software based on Python. He noted that this transition has led to greater accuracy over the prior versions.

The team can’t wait to reveal everything special they’ve been building and dreaming up. They have their sights firmly focused on the national stage in Harrogate. End-Tech’s journey is a testament to passion and collaboration as they inspire each other to innovate and explore new frontiers in robotics.
