The End-Tech team from Endon High School in Staffordshire has already tasted success on the road to the final by winning a regional Lego competition. This victory has now become the team’s second straight victory! Having recruited five enthusiastic and committed members, they are now in a position to represent Staffordshire at national level at their national tournament in Harrogate later this year.
As a result, this year’s competition was more competitive than ever before. In fact, Malachi of our own team went so far as to say, “Teams are better this year. The popular regional contest brought teams from all across the southwest, even as far as Bradford teams. With a significantly higher field of competition, their victory was even more remarkable.
Throughout the competition, the team presented a robot equipped with color sensors. Owen said that this feature “bit makes it a lot more user friendly. The robot completed a gauntlet of challenges designed by the judging panel. The secret sauce The team received incentive points for each task it was able to complete. One of the most exciting pieces of the entire competition was their robot showcase. Participants had to describe what makes it special, which upped the degree of difficulty for the competition.
End-Tech’s commitment to the contest involved a lot of time spent in and out of school programming and perfecting their robot. With the inclusion of a Python-based coding software, the team was able to improve the precision and efficiency of their programming arsenal. Malachi explained, “We’ve swapped to a new coding software that uses Python so it’s much more accurate than it used to be.” That strategic choice honed what would be their winning performance down the stretch of that hotly contested competition.
James, also a member of the Story of Stuff team, aptly characterized the day as “nail biting,” a testament to the stress and anticipation that marked their work. Over the course of the competition, the technical chops of the winning team blew everyone away. Their great genius was to work together under intense pressure.
