Super Team End-Tech, a robotics team from Endon High School in Staffordshire, has accomplished something incredible. They achieved their place at the first Lego League UK National Final by winning their regional competition! The team, consisting of five members—Owen, James, Ethan Saunders, Malachi, and their coach—achieved this feat against several competing groups, including one from Bradford.
The regional contest required the team to build a robot capable of completing various challenges set by the judges. This year, End-Tech’s robot was equipped with advanced colour sensors, allowing it to avoid obstacles with greater accuracy. The team dedicated countless hours during and after school to code and construct their robot, making continuous improvements throughout the process.
In his own words, Malachi said this year’s competition was more stiff than usual. “The contest this time was tighter due to teams being better this year,” he said. The team’s efforts paid off as they demonstrated their robot’s capabilities and delivered a presentation about its features.
Owen provided details on how they improved their robot from previous years. “We’ve got a whole different robot with colour sensors this time, that makes it a bit easier to use,” he stated. This hard design strategic pivot is what fueled their success. That was the second time in a row that End-Tech had scored a victory at this stage of the competition.
The next national tournament will also take place in Harrogate. End-Tech will be flying the flag for Staffordshire, going head-to-head with the very best teams from all over the UK. Their advanced victory in the Water Environment Federation’s national regional competition is a testament to their beautiful technical prowess. Beyond that, it showcases their profound commitment to innovation and collaboration.
