Roblox Corporation is thrilled to share that we’ll be opening a new data center in São Paulo, Brazil. This new center will be welcoming visitors by early 2026! This facility is the most cutting-edge in Roblox’s portfolio. It’s working to improve the gaming experience for millions of gamers across the country. Brazil is currently Roblox’s second-largest market for daily active users. This new infrastructure has been built to support performance and low latency as core tenets, with a focus on serving its quickly growing user base.
Accounting for the soon-to-open fall 2024 data centers, Roblox operates 27 data centers across the globe. This number will soon increase with the addition of a new smart center in São Paulo, Brazil. The expansion comes at an especially critical time. Brazil’s daily active user growth has been monumental, with an average of 181% growth over the past four years. Roblox now boasts 85.3 million daily active users. With the new data center’s technological improvements, that number could balloon 45 times higher.
With the additional performance benchmarks from our São Paulo data center, we’re able to achieve even higher frame rates and response times. It seeks to reduce jitter for gamers, reducing game latency spikes, providing a more consistent and enjoyable gaming experience. The web-based infrastructure is built to be inclusive to high-spec and lower-end devices so that performance is optimized no matter what the user has at their disposal. This flexibility of program is key to best serving Roblox’s robust and varied player community on the ground in Brazil.
Roblox is taking the opportunity to refine and deepen its support of developers via this new facility, as well. The new hardware will allow for breakneck gameplay. It will provide developers with groundbreaking new creator tools that will invigorate game creation, making it a dynamic playground for game development. This new infrastructure will help tremendously expand the Brazilian Player Base – strategically important lucrative Player Base for Creators. This expansion will greatly increase their power, reach and opportunities.
Roblox is opening another regional data center. Later this year, they’ll be rolling out Regional Pricing for avatar items as well. This initiative will allow creators who opt-in to tap into a global business model while maximizing their earnings on the platform.
Roblox understands the importance of engaging with their community in-person, as evidenced by their significant presence at the Gamescom Latam Big Festival. At this festival, creators, players, and fans can meet influential Roblox developers and participate in various activities. The Roblox booth is hosting coding challenges, trivia contests, and skill-based gameplay matches. Additionally, sessions titled “Roblox: Powering LATAM Game Development” and “From Passion to Profession: The Journey of LATAM Roblox Developers” will provide insights into the platform’s influence on regional game development.
In a statement, Jerret West, a chief spokesperson for Roblox, said he was “excited” for the new data center to come online.
