Zelestra Launches Full Operations at Gorbea Solar Project in Rajasthan

Zelestra has officially commenced full commercial operations at its 435 megawatts direct current (MWdc) Gorbea solar project located in Rajasthan, India. This crucial milestone demonstrates the project’s preparedness to pioneer India’s renewable energy future. It’s projected to produce a whopping 755 gigawatt hours (GWh) of clean energy annually. The clean energy that the farm will produce will be enough to power nearly 128,000 American homes.

Including the Mabton community engagement process, the Gorbea project took less than eight months from start to finish. Completing this complex milestone early reflects Zelestra’s drive to implement projects expeditiously and efficiently. A 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) helped bring this facility to fruition. This agreement guarantees that IGF makes a long-term commitment to producing energy sustainably.

Commitment to Clean Energy

Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi hailed Gorbea’s victory as a win for the climate. He highlighted the depth of India’s commitment to renewable energy in support of the broader project. Minister Joshi, in turn, celebrated the project as a key part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Harit Kranti (“Green Revolution”) initiative.

“We were proud to welcome Honourable Minister Pralhad Joshi to Gorbea today to share the celebration of this major success.” – KV Sajay, Zelestra India CEO

While the Gorbea solar project is entirely oriented toward energy production, community benefits are a clear driving factor. Minister Joshi instructed that the project should focus on local youth first for its jobs. This strategic maneuver will provide a multiplicity of benefits, most importantly improving the socioeconomic makeup of the entire region.

Future Prospects and Pipeline

Zelestra continues to expand its presence in the Indian renewable energy sector, with a robust pipeline that includes multi-technology projects totaling 5.4 gigawatts (GW) across the country. As of now, Zelestra has 1.7 GW contracted with a multitude of customers, highlighting its robust market position.

Then, in early July 2025, Zelestra pulled off an even bigger coup, raising an additional €235 million ($277 million) on the sustainability-linked loan. With that increase, the total reached an unsurpassed €770 million ($907 million). This funding is a testament to Zelestra’s dedication to sustainability and innovation on renewable energy projects.

“Gorbea showcases our ability to engineer execution-focused solutions and deliver major projects ahead of time and below budget. Thanks to SECI’s commitment to clean energy, Gorbea has already delivered many economic and social benefits. Over the next 25-plus years, Gorbea will be delivering a positive impact to the environment and supporting the energy transition underway across India.” – KV Sajay, Zelestra India CEO

Environmental Impact

As the Gorbea solar project comes online, it’s on track to provide substantial environmental advantages throughout the course of its operational life. As India transitions towards cleaner energy sources, Gorbea will play a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions and supporting sustainable development.
