Winton North Hybrid Project Set to Transform Australia’s Energy Landscape

Australia is poised to take a big step forward in its decarbonisation ambitions. OTM’s Winton North hybrid project will be a key part of this effort. This exciting, ambitious initiative will take place in two stages. Construction will begin in short order, with operations planned for 2027. The project will help add more renewable energy resources, laying the foundation for a cleaner, greener future.

The first phase of the Winton North project will focus on constructing a 100 megawatts (MW) alternating current solar farm. In addition to producing low-cost renewable energy, this facility will play a pivotal role in support of the country’s goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The solar farm will be complemented by the second phase, which includes the installation of a 100MW two-hour battery energy storage system. This integrated system of solar generation and driverless battery storage is meant to improve energy reliability and efficiency.

The Winton North project will cover 256ha. This gives a huge opportunity for solar and storage to plug in. Once complete, it is poised to generate a remarkable 227 gigawatt hours (GWh) of clean energy annually. This new output will be crucial to fulfilling Australia’s growing energy needs.
