Wasion Group Secures Major Contract with Tanesco for Smart Meters

Wasion Group, the leading vendor of power meters in China, has big plans! Its wholly owned subsidiary in Tanzania recently won a $5.6 million contract with Tanesco, Tanzania’s only state-owned electricity utility company. Wasion has made a very important move to make its deep and long term presence in the African market. This contract, worth around TSh61 million, is indispensable to that battle. Providing service to nearly 15 million connections nationwide, Tanesco is one of the largest state-owned enterprises in Tanzania. This collaboration is key in advancing innovative energy management and infrastructure.

The contract includes the provision of smart meters, which are key to creating more efficiency in power usage and billing. As such, Tanzania becomes a key business centre for Wasion in East Africa. This strategic move places the company to capture the increasing appetite for high-quality advanced energy solutions in the booming region.

Commitment to African Market

Sinohydro subsidiary Wasion Group has pledged to keep a steady stream of orders for power meters flowing across Africa. The company’s chairman, Ji Wei, stressed the ecological importance of this strategy during a recent press release.

“Looking ahead, the Group aims to maintain steady orders for power meters in Africa while actively developing new projects, including energy storage.” – Wasion Holdings chairman Ji Wei

This commitment to the African market is part of Wasion’s larger strategy to expand their footprint beyond Tanzania. The company is intent on gaining a foothold in neighbouring countries including Uganda, Kenya and Mozambique.

Global Reach and Future Projects

Aside from its work in Tanzania, Wasion Group has a deep footprint worldwide. In fact, the company exports 80 percent of its production around the globe, including growing markets in Asia, Europe, and the United States. Wasion has strong market share leadership in the People’s Republic of China. Today, the company is using that expertise to develop innovative energy solutions for the worldwide market.

Wasion is not limiting its ambitions to smart meters alone. They are leading the way in energy storage projects, which will be key for future energy management and resilience efforts. This move into new tech demonstrates how the company is looking to stay ahead of the curve with the changing energy industry.

Recognition and Future Expansions

Wasion’s achievements have not gone unnoticed. The company recently signed up CFE in Mexico. This groundbreaking partnership, which has brought with it a supply agreement worth more than 1.45 billion pesos, highlights Wasion’s increasing prestige in the global power meter market.

As their footprint in East Africa deepens, Wasion Group is looking to spread its wings actively in regions beyond. What hasn’t changed is their commitment to innovation and customer service. The parent Tanzanian subsidiary of a US telecoms company is enjoying raucous success. Despite challenges, this success highlights how the company is intentionally reshaping itself to prepare for future growth and expansion.
