VIFOR Wind Farm Secures Funding for Major Expansion

VIFOR wind farm is increasing its green energy contribution. As of last week, they landed $385 million in new market financing to make this expansion possible! The first phase of the project is now under construction. Once both phases are finished, it will be one of the largest onshore wind farms in Europe. The inaugural phase of VIFOR dazzles with a remarkable capacity of 192 megawatts (MW). It consists of 30 turbines, and each one has the capacity to produce a whopping 6.4 MW of power. When completed in spring 2026, this first phase will deliver enough power for about 700,000 households.

Congratulations to VIFOR for successfully winning this new funding! This investment will help the company effortlessly enter its second phase, bringing on line an industry-busting addition of 269 MW of capacity. Once finished, the wind farm will have a total capacity of 461 MW. This increase would significantly enhance its importance as a provider of sustainable energy for the region.

Details of the First Phase

The first phase of the VIFOR wind farm includes 30 turbines, carefully planned and placed using advanced modeling and simulation technologies to optimize wind energy collection. Every turbine is important, as they each contribute to reaching the 192 MW nameplate capacity. As construction continues, stakeholders are confident in fulfilling the target operational timeline, which is expected to begin service in spring of 2026.

This first step is an important milestone for Rezolv Energy. Perhaps more importantly, it sets the stage for increased growth moving forward. VIFOR has built a significant deployment that now provides clean, renewable energy to over 700,000 homes. Each piece of this impressive effort will go a long way toward restoring Massachusetts’ leadership on improving the environment and energy landscape.

Alastair Hammond, CEO of Rezolv Energy, commented on the financing received for the project saying, “We’re really excited to see this funding materialize.

“We are delighted to have sourced this significant additional funding from our trusted group of international lenders. With Phase 1 of the VIFOR project scheduled for completion by spring 2026, this financing allows us to move seamlessly into Phase 2 and take the project to its full capacity.” – Alastair Hammond

Expansion Plans for Phase Two

The second phase of the VIFOR wind farm, which intends to build 42 additional turbines. Once completed, this expansion will more than double its current renewable energy production. Such expansions will increase the total installed capacity to 461 MW. It shows Rezolv Energy’s commitment to deliver the best clean power solutions all over Europe.

This expansion will more than double VIFOR’s energy production capabilities. It will further address the increasing need for clean, renewable energy alternatives. The second phase is expected to be in service by Q4 of 2027.

She noted that, for the company, this expansion is very much a game-changer.

“With VIFOR’s first phase well under construction, it’s fantastic to see such great progress on Phase 2 of the project. This second phase will add real, material scale to VIFOR and make it one of the largest onshore wind farms in Europe. VIFOR represents a key pillar of Rezolv Energy’s plan to deliver clean power for Europe.” – Jaroslava Korpanec

Future Impact and Renewable Energy Goals

The project to build the new VIFOR wind farm adds to Europe’s growing commitment to move away from fossil fuels and embrace renewable energy. The financing received not only facilitates growth but reinforces commitments made through various agreements. Renewable energy Bekaert has recently signed a 10-year VPPPA (virtual power purchase agreement) with Rezolv Energy. This agreement secures them 100 gigawatt-hours of renewable energy annually from VIFOR.

Indeed, VIFOR has major construction and expansion projects currently under way. This further positions the company as an important partner in building a regional, sustainable energy future.
