VERBUND Green Power and Nordex Group Forge Major Wind Energy Agreement

On January 16, VERBUND Green Power concluded the biggest order in the history of VERBUND with Nordex Group in Madrid. This coalition’s goal is to accelerate renewable energy development across Europe. This deal is an important step for them to be able to do that. They are committed to increasing the proportion of photovoltaics and wind energy in total generation to at least 25% by 2030.

Dietmar Reiner, managing director of VERBUND Green Power, signed the agreement. To formalize the agreement, he signed it with José Luis Blanco, CEO of Nordex Group, on November 11 at their new Madrid headquarters. The companies said that they were partnering to provide a maximum of 105 Nordex onshore wind turbines. Together, this project will bring an astonishing 700 megawatts (MW) of new energy to the grid. This capacity accounts for almost half of VERBUND Green Power’s existing project pipeline in wind.

The partnership targets six key European markets: Austria, Germany, Spain, Italy, Romania, and Albania. Both companies are tapping the cutting-edge 7MW-class onshore turbines from Nordex Group. Together they promise to provide reliable and affordable wind energy all the way through 2030.

José Luis Blanco went on to say that together, Nordex will provide the turbine capacity required to convert an impressive pipeline into clean energy. This program covers six multi-country markets in Europe as part of their multi-year plan.

The agreement deepens an existing partnership between the two companies. Just last year VERBUND ordered nine N175/6.X turbines for a project in Romania. This first order shows their seriousness and commitment to dramatically increasing clean energy infrastructure across the southeast.

“With up to 700MW of our latest 7MW-class onshore turbines slated across Austria, Germany, Spain, Italy, Romania and Albania, we are creating a clear path to deliver reliable, cost-efficient wind energy together with VERBUND through 2030.” – José Luis Blanco

This deal will double wind energy production within Europe, supporting both energy independence and climate commitments. Countries are scrambling to time their renewables targets and go much further. Partnerships such as VERBUND and Nordex Group’s are essential for accelerating sustainable energy solutions.
