Uniper, one of Germany’s leading energy companies, is to build its first solar PV parks in Sweden. The project will include two solar installations in southern Sweden, called Segaas and Segerhult, that match the expected electricity use of the group. Combined, these projects are on track to reach an estimated combined capacity of 35 megawatts (MW).
Johan Svenningsson, Uniper’s CEO in Sweden, emphasized the importance of diversifying energy investments to align with Sweden’s electricity production goals. He emphasized that continuous expansion of the solar energy sector is necessary to fulfil increasing energy demands in a sustainable manner.
The two solar farms will be developed in collaboration with Solgrid, a trusted community solar energy developer. The purpose of this collaboration is to combine the strengths and expertise of both companies to provide proven capability for delivering large complex projects. Construction of Segaas and Segerhult is expected to start in early 2026. We hope to finish the entire undertaking before 2027.
Uniper, on the other hand, has emerged as a surprising leader in the renewable energy procurement space. The company is heavily engaged in solar farm initiatives in Germany, Hungary and the United Kingdom. The company’s mission is to contract for 10 gigawatts (GW) of buildable wind and solar generation resources. To accomplish this ambitious target by 2030, they envision a holistic multi-pronged approach.
This move into the Swedish market reflects Uniper’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio and contributing to the transition towards sustainable energy sources. Sweden is currently working to rapidly build up solar power in order to increase electricity production from renewable sources to 100 percent. Through strategic investments, this initiative directly lowers the nation’s dependence on fossil fuels.
Together, the Segaas and Segerhult facilities will more than triple the amount of energy generated locally. Together, they will propel innovation and economic development within and beyond their Northern California region. As the world increasingly shifts towards greener energy solutions, Uniper’s initiatives in Sweden demonstrate its proactive approach to addressing future energy challenges.
