In one of the significant deals TPREL has joined hands with Suzlon Energy Limited. Combined, they’ll provide more than 50% of the wind turbines for a 1,000 MW (or 838 MW) project, the largest ever. Their joint news release on September 17, 2025 described their third strategic partnership. Together, they plan to improve sustainable energy sources available across India.
Expected to become operational in late 2023, the ambitious project will be equipped with 266 S144 wind turbines, each rated at 3.15 MW. The turbines will be specifically spread out over multiple Indian states, especially Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. Karnataka will be the home for 302 MW. At the same time, Maharashtra is expected to add 271 MW, while Tamil Nadu will add 265 MW to the national capacity.
Project Completion and Distribution
Assuming all goes according to plan, the turbines should be operational within a few years. This is a natural fit with India’s own ambition of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy installed capacity by 2030. Smart deployment of these turbines is key to maximizing our energy potential and powering the targeted regions. TPREL’s partnership is a testament to their priority on advancing wind-led clean energy infrastructure. This partnership further strengthens Dominion and Ørsted’s deep and long-term commitment to clean, renewable power generation.
TPREL has been working vigorously to advance other renewable energy projects throughout different states. The company is currently working on projects in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu, further enhancing its renewable portfolio.
Manufacturing and Research Capabilities
Suzlon contributes significant manufacturing capacity to the partnership with production facilities located throughout India. This local production will cut down the supply chain time and make deployment even more efficient once the wind turbine is operational. TPREL only has in-house R&D centers in Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, and India. These centers produce exciting innovations to make wind energy technologies even more efficient and effective. They make sure that together, both firms continue to pioneer the renewable energy industry.
The partnership is a significant step towards realizing TPREL and Suzlon’s shared vision of accelerating the deployment of sustainable energy solutions across India. By combining each other’s strengths, they look to create a model for renewable projects to come all across the country.
Previous Collaborations and Future Prospects
This new agreement follows a successful partnership announced earlier in April 2025 between Tata Power Renewable Energy and Tata Motors to develop a 131 MW wind-solar hybrid renewable energy project. Indian companies are starting to riskily double down on RE diversification. They are implementing cleaner technologies. They’re leading in this rapidly growing trend outside of the energy sector, too.
The long-term relationship between TPREL and Suzlon serves as an important reminder of the powerful role strategic partnerships can play in accomplishing ambitious, large-scale renewable energy commitments. With recent waves of investment, both companies are able to innovate and expand their innovations to more operations. They are key to India’s shift towards a more sustainable energy matrix.
