Tata Motors’ biggest move yet has been signing a PPA with Tata Power. Collectively, they’ll work to create one of the first – if not the first – 131-megawatt wind-solar hybrid projects. The effort is meant to deliver 100 percent clean electricity to all of Tata Motors’ six manufacturing plants in the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat. The collaborative project is set to launch on Earth Day, April 22nd 2025. It will generate over 300 megawatt-hours of clean electricity annually, powering Tata Motors’ ambitious sustainability targets into the future.
The ambitious hybrid project was particularly conceived to create a whirlwind eco-effect. Together, these projects are expected to abate more than 200,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. It will be crucial for helping to peel back greenhouse gas emissions associated with manufacturing commercial and passenger vehicles. To power its operations, Tata Motors uses 100% renewable energy sources. This effort fulfills its commitment to reaching net-zero emissions.
This joint project between two Tata subsidiaries underscores the company’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing practices. This project will produce clean, renewable electricity. It will help Tata Motors to greatly lower the environmental footprint of its manufacturing operations.
“We are proud to lead this initiative,” said Vishal Badshah, vice-president of operations for commercial vehicles at Tata Motors.
“As a key driver of India’s mobility and logistics ecosystem, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles is proud to lead by example in sustainable manufacturing.” – Vishal Badshah, Tata Motors vice-president operations commercial vehicles
This collaborative effort highlights Tata Motors’ commitment to combat climate change and improve energy efficiency across its manufacturing buildings. By investing in renewable energy solutions like this wind-solar hybrid project, the company continues to align its operations with broader environmental objectives.
