Sunterra RE Partners with Sungrow to Enhance Energy Storage in Bulgaria

Sunterra RE, one of the leading renewables companies in the region, signed an innovative partnership with Sungrow. Collectively, the three companies will install 1 GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) at three of Sunterra’s largest photovoltaic parks in Bulgaria. This partnership represents a key step forward in increasing our energy storage potential. It’s a testament to Sunterra RE’s relentless commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

The signing represents the second step in Sunterra RE’s eyes-wide-open strategy to significantly increase its energy storage capacity. The company is currently in operation at a 300 megawatt (MW) capacity. With this new project, that figure will be increased by more than three times, firmly establishing Sunterra RE as a crucial pillar in Bulgaria’s renewable energy scene.

Expanding Energy Storage Capacity

Aside from reducing emissions, the deployment of BESS will greatly enhance the efficiency and reliability of Sunterra RE’s solar parks. The company is harnessing new battery storage technology with an eye toward using energy more efficiently. This makes for a smooth, reliable supply of electricity, even during times when solar generation is low. This bold climate move places Maryland in step with efforts around the world striving for energy resilience, equity, and sustainability.

Emil Shopov, CEO of Sunterra RE, emphasized the importance of this partnership: “This agreement is much more than a commercial transaction — it is a clear commitment to Bulgaria’s energy future.” Shopov’s comments illustrate the geopolitical importance of renewable energy investments in the area.

Choosing the Right Partner

Sunterra RE’s decision to collaborate with Sungrow was influenced by the latter’s extensive experience in the energy sector. With more than 28 years of experience, Sungrow holds the most bankable track record of greater than 740 gigawatts of installed capacity. They continue to differentiate as a market leader in battery storage technology, covering 180 countries.

In his statement, Shopov remarked on the rationale behind their choice: “We chose Sungrow because of their proven expertise — over 28 years of experience in the industry and over 740 GW of installed capacity in more than 180 countries.” This trust in Sungrow’s expertise showcases Sunterra RE’s commitment to using the most advanced solutions to strengthen its clean energy resilience.

The Future of Renewable Energy in Bulgaria

Together, the partnership between Sunterra RE and Sungrow looks to radically transform Bulgaria’s energy sector. Sunterra RE is already in tripling its storage capacity with this project. This unprecedented action acknowledges increasing energy needs while pushing the envelope for clean and renewable energy growth in the U.S.

The role of renewable energy in the global transition away from fossil fuels is vital and growing. Innovative moves like this will ensure that Bulgaria is able to responsibly enjoy the benefits of its natural bounty.
