Strategic Value Partners (SVP) is an alternative investment firm that manages approximately $22 billion in assets. Since then, they’ve worked to acquire a stake in the Birdsboro Power facility. When the announcement was made on May 5th, 2025, SVP’s dedication to the power sector was on full display. Through 2021, SVP had invested nearly $3 billion in power assets. This acquisition was completed through SVP’s managed funds, referred to as SVP Funds, and is another step of strategy partnership entered with EverGen.
The Birdsboro Power facility, which achieved commercial operations in 2019, is located in the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland (PJM) Interconnection zone. This facility is uniquely situated to deliver this reliable, low-cost power to customers throughout Pennsylvania. The acquisition speaks to SVP’s comprehensive understanding of real asset sectors. It highlights their focus on improving operational and commercial performance along the energy value chain, from production to consumption.
David Geenberg, head of North American corporate investments at SVP, expressed enthusiasm regarding the acquisition, stating, “Given EverGen’s and SVP’s industry expertise, we were able to move quickly and provide deal certainty while executing on a bilateral basis.” Their pithy statement strongly conveys the simple, direct, cut-the-crap approach that both companies implemented during the acquisition process.
Ari Barz, representing EverGen, commented on the collaboration, saying, “We are excited to partner with SVP in its investment in Birdsboro Power, which is an environmentally advantaged plant with efficient new turbine technology that is well-positioned to serve its customers in a period of significant forecasted demand growth.” This reaction underscores the creative features of the facility as cutting edge and its potential to address the energy needs of tomorrow.
Dave Freysinger further emphasized the operational goals following the acquisition: “We look forward to working with our partners in optimizing the operational and commercial performance of this important facility and continuing to deliver reliable, flexible and efficient power in the region.” Freysinger’s quote is a testament to SVP’s continued efforts to maximize the value and productivity of the Birdsboro Power facility while ensuring operational efficiency.
