Serentica Renewables Expands Footprint with Acquisition of Statkraft’s Indian Solar Portfolio

An emerging powerhouse in the renewable energy space, Serentica Renewables is moving fast. In order to meet its lofty ambitions the company has entered into binding agreements for the purchase of the Indian solar arm of Norway-based Statkraft. Serentica Renewables was established in 2022. This independent power producer through solar is focused on serving commercial, industrial, and utility customers throughout India. With this acquisition, the company’s operating portfolio will grow to 1.5 gigawatts (GW). Perhaps most importantly, it will make a historic boost to our capacity to produce clean energy.

The agreement includes a 445 megawatt peak (MWp) operational solar power plant located in Bikaner. It boasts 1 GWp of development assets spread across the state of Rajasthan. With this purchase, Serentica Renewables intends to supply more than 50 billion units of clean energy annually. The company estimates that its operations will contribute to a reduction of approximately 47 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions.

Commitment to India’s Energy Transition

Pratik Agarwal, chair of Serentica Renewables, emphasized his company’s focus on supporting the nation’s energy transition and connectivity objectives. Their commitment was exemplified by their recent purchase. Agarwal stated that integrating these assets with wind and storage systems will enable the company to provide “a faster round-the-clock solution to our largest clients.” This strategic move is in line with Serentica’s broader vision of pioneering positive change in India’s renewable energy ecosystem.

The acquisition is more than double Serentica Renewables’ current installed capacity. It reflects the robust sustainability initiatives of the company and their commitment to being good environmental stewards. In doing so, Serentica projects to reduce CO₂ emissions by 0.6 million tonnes per year on an annualized basis. Measures under this initiative will be the backbone of India’s efforts to combat climate change.

Strong Financial Backing

Serentica Renewables, which was recently able to make an impressive $650 million investment from KKR. This historic capital raise underscores robust investor conviction in the company’s long-term strategy and vision. This financial support will help enable the rapid scaling up and deployment of renewable energy projects across India.

Fernando de Lapuerta, Statkraft’s executive vice-president international, expressed enthusiasm about the transaction, stating, “We are very pleased with this transaction. Serentica Renewables is a fast-growing renewable energy company with high ambitions.” He added that he is excited for the new opportunities this acquisition brings, both to Statkraft’s employees and operations.

Future Prospects

We were impressed by Serentica Renewables’ ambitious targets and their strong financial underpinnings. Because of this, it is primed to see amazing development within the renewable energy field. Plus, the company made a shrewd buy when it snagged Statkraft’s solar portfolio. This action significantly increases its operational capabilities and deepens its alignment with the fast-growing, clean energy solutions.

As India advocates for a greener tomorrow, this is why companies like Serentica Renewables are so important to accelerate the nation’s energy transition. By pursuing these initiatives together, Serentica is making a promising mark on the rapidly changing renewable frontier. Their goal is to do all of that while bringing billions of clean energy units into the world sustainably.
