Sabanci Renewables Takes Charge of Lucky 7 Solar Project in Texas

Just this past week Sabanci Renewables announced its acquisition of the 15 MWdc Lucky 7 Solar project. This big project is on I-30 in Hopkins County, Texas. Running in an equally impressive 745 acres, the project is within the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT)- North market. When completed by 2027, it will provide enough clean energy to power the ERCOT-North market grid. Together, this is a monumental move toward sustainable energy solutions.

This acquisition represents the second successful development partnership between OCI and Sabanci. It builds on their previous collaboration in divesting Project Pepper, a 120 MWac/156 MWdc solar project. Lucky 7 Solar project, which is currently being developed by Sabanci. With these issues resolved, it can proceed to construction and into operation, increasing the region’s commitment to renewable energy.

Details of the Lucky 7 Solar Project

The Lucky 7 Solar project will use solar energy to diversify and stabilize the electricity supply in Texas’s ERCOT-North restructured utility market. The proposed project would use 745 acres of land to meet energy needs. At the same time, it will drastically reduce our negative impact on the environment.

The construction of this solar farm fits into a larger energy narrative, focused on the rapid rise and embrace of cleaner energy sources. As Texas continues to expand its renewable energy infrastructure, projects like Lucky 7 exemplify the state’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and fostering sustainable growth.

Sabanci’s Vision and Future Goals

Sabanci Renewables manages a diverse nationwide portfolio of projects, targeting up to 10 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2028. The company’s strategic focus on enabling a responsible, inclusive growth to society is at the center of their long-term value creation.

Tolga Kaan Doğancıoğlu, a representative of Sabanci Group, stated, > “Project Lucky 7 marks another significant step in delivering clean and reliable energy. The acquisition aligns with Sabanci Group’s 100-year legacy of responsible growth and long-term value creation.”

This bold vision for sustainable energy pairs beautifully with other movements. For instance, OCI Energy and CPS Energy are partnering to build one of the largest battery energy storage systems in the world at 120MW/480 megawatt-hours in San Antonio, Texas. Each of these exciting announcements is indicative of an impressive statewide push for a more reliable, clean, and efficient energy future.

Collaborative Efforts in Renewable Energy

The successful sale of the Lucky 7 Solar project highlights the growing collaboration between established players in the renewable energy sector. As energy demands continue to change, building strategic partnerships will be key to developing smart projects that help lead toward a greener future.

The previous partnership between OCI and Sabanci set the stage for this most recent purchase. Tucked into the architecture of this latest funding announcement is a clear message about the importance of innovation joint ventures in positively disrupting our industry. These types of collaborations build up collective knowledge and resources, while setting the stage for cleaner and more resilient energy to come.
