As one of the world’s top renewable energy companies, RWE has shown its commitment to Germany’s green energy transformation. Just last month, they announced a 200 MW PPA with Amazon. This MOU shines a spotlight on the Nordseecluster offshore wind project. It lies approximately 50 km north of the German island of Juist. The agreement is intended to strengthen Germany’s renewable energy base. It’s helping the country’s transition to a cleaner, more efficient, carbon-free energy economy.
The Nordseecluster offshore wind project is currently being developed in two separate phases. The first phase, called Nordseecluster A, is a 660 megawatt (MW) capacity that’s started construction. It’s projected to enter service in early 2027. The second phase, Nordseecluster B, is on track to add an impressive 900 MW to the grid. When complete, the project is slated to be in operation by 2029.
Once fully operational, the Nordseecluster offshore wind project is projected to generate enough renewable energy to power over one million German households each year. In concrete terms, electricity generated from Nordseecluster B alone will be enough to supply over 139,000 households a year. The project includes ten other smaller efforts that together total more than 790 MW of capacity.
The recent agreement between RWE and Amazon further solidifies their joint strategic partnership. This joint effort, originally agreed in June 2025, continues to demonstrate both companies’ commitment to developing Germany’s sustainable energy landscape.
“Power purchase agreements like this one with Amazon are crucial for accelerating Germany’s decarbonisation while strengthening long‑term security of supply.” – Ulf Kerstin
Rocco Bräuniger, Amazon’s Country Manager for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, highlighted the importance of this collaboration. He stated,
“Germany is transitioning to an energy future that is modern and carbon-free, and this agreement with RWE helps advance that vision. As Amazon works toward net-zero carbon by 2040, we continue enabling projects that strengthen Germany’s renewable energy capacity for generations to come.”
In October 2025, RWE celebrated commissioning of the Kail wind farm with pride. This will do wind energy market for the first time in southwestern Germany’s state of Rhineland-Palatinate. This latest advancement demonstrates RWE’s continued focus on growing its renewable energy business and contributing to national net zero aspirations.
