The Revolution Wind project is set to resume construction after a U.S. court lifted a suspension that had previously halted progress. That’s because the project is located in federal waters. It is located 15 miles south of the Rhode Island state line, 32 miles southeast of the Connecticut state line, and 12 miles west of Martha’s Vineyard. Revolution Wind has made significant strides this year, obtaining all necessary federal and state permits amid comprehensive consultations with various governmental entities.
The project, one of the largest offshore wind facilities in the world, with a capacity of 704 megawatts (MW), is almost 87% finished. All offshore foundations are in place, and 58 of the expected 65 wind turbines have been installed so far. We’re excited that soon Revolution Wind will be generating clean, renewable power! Once completed, it will deliver clean energy to more than 350,000 homes across the northeast, beginning as early as January 2026.
Revolution Wind is advancing a more sustainable and inclusive clean energy future. Along the way, it’s generated more than two million union work hours, proving its effectiveness at both construction and local hiring. Ørsted’s investments in manufacturing and clean energy infrastructure support more than 40 states. This project in particular is intended to improve overall regional grid reliability.
This recent court decision clears the way for Revolution Wind to start construction. It further highlights the company’s deep commitment to renewable energy projects. And Revolution Wind has already signed long-term power purchase agreements with his state’s utilities and those of Rhode Island. This visionary move firmly places the company at the heart of advancing renewable energy solutions.
