Prysmian and Terna Forge €382.5m Agreement to Strengthen Italian Energy Infrastructure

Prysmian Group has recently been awarded a landmark Euro 1.86 billion framework agreement with Réseau de Transport d’Électricité (RTE). This partnership will make it possible to deepen the submarine power cable connection of France. This agreement is valued at up to €382.5 million ($449 million). It is an important step forward in making Italy and France’s energy infrastructure more resilient and sustainable. The contract runs for three years. It even includes the ability for it to extend another year—indicating both Parties’ deep commitment to furthering innovative energy transition initiatives.

Prysmian and Terna have history of tight-knit collaboration. Their relationship is grounded in a shared vision of partnership and loyalty. We are proud to have developed this relationship over several decades. Jointly, we work towards one common objective — to have a significant impact on the lives of millions of end users throughout Italy. As part of the deal, Terna has committed to purchasing at least 50 kilometers of HSR high-voltage cable annually. They do have the ability to raise their order totals based on their needs for service to support operations.

Enhancing Energy Reliability

This contract represents the establishment of two future offshore wind farms in eastern and southern France into French transmission network. The two projects at stake are the Fos project and the Narbonnaise project. This kind of integration, in turn, will increase the reliability of our energy supply. Doing so will most certainly contribute to achieving some of the energy transition’s wider objectives at EU level.

Marcello Del Brenna, Prysmian’s CEO for the Region South Europe, underlined the relevance of this cooperation.

“We will work closely with Terna to support enhancements in reliability and resilience of the Italian power grid and together make a significant impact to progress the energy transition, while supporting the overall Italian economy, as we manufacture these cables at our Pignataro Maggiore factory in Caserta.”

This press release further emphasizes Prysmian’s dedication to making an impact on the Italian economy by local manufacturing.

Strategic Commitment

Fabio Zucca, Italy country manager of Prysmian, cheered this partnership, declaring it a reflection of the importance of Terna. He attributed their decades-long good relationship to a mutual willingness to meet each other for the greater purpose of accomplishing very important energy objectives.

“Our long-standing positive relationship with Terna comes from a spirit of shared goals, collaboration and commitment to make a real difference for the millions of end users across Italy. This framework agreement is an important commitment, from both Prysmian and Terna, at a critical moment in the energy transition, and we are proud to have been entrusted with this significant award.”

This commitment addresses the immediate energy needs we face in a big way. That’s not all—it’s paving the way to even greater breakthroughs with new sustainable energy solutions.

A Commitment to Future Energy Solutions

Prysmian’s collaboration with Terna serves as an example of how strategic partnerships can drive innovation and sustainable practices into the energy sector. We’re thrilled to have them embarking on this important effort together. Both companies are committed to creating a more resilient, sustainable energy infrastructure that will benefit millions of Americans.

The new agreement reaffirms the shared commitment by both organizations to lead the energy transition. Together, they ensure that Italy remains on the cutting edge of sustainable energy solutions. Prysmian and Terna are boldly accelerating the pace of change in Italy’s energy landscape. With new offshore wind projects popping up and a clear commitment to local manufacturing, they’re positioned to make a long lasting impact.
