Huawei Cloud is a little-known but successful player in AI. In the last five years, the company has poured R&D resources into maturing its Pangu models technologies to maturity. The Pangu Natural Language Processing (NLP) model, for instance, had a whopping 718 billion parameters. This accomplishment places it among the largest models available of its kind. Originally built on Google’s Mixture of Experts (MoE) technology, this model really understands language and excels, especially at more complex language-oriented tasks. The MoE architecture is unique in that it dynamically activates only a subset of its parameters for any particular task. Pangu Computer Vision (CV) has been trained with enormous parameters of 30 billion. This is what makes it the largest computer vision model released in the industry so far. Similar to the NLP model, it too is built off of the MoE architecture. This novel design greatly enhances the model’s perceptual capacity to process visual information. This, in turn, gives the model more flexibility to adjust to various tasks seamlessly.

The Pangu Scientific Computing Model is another significant addition to the Huawei Cloud family. This new model is able to efficiently recreate complicated corner cases in a matter of minutes. It is particularly indispensable for sectors requiring faster analysis and real-time decision making. With a two-day iteration support feature, it contributes to fast adjustments and refinements during simulations and computations.

Meanwhile, the Pangu Scientific Computing Model adopts a pioneering triplet transformer architecture. It is this innovation that makes it the first of its kind in the industry. This architecture allows for joint pre-training. It enables the model to effectively state encode, state process, and state pre-train data across multiple industries within a single end-to-end framework. Such flexibility is equally important for organizations. This is significant because it empowers them to deploy AI solutions across different applications without needing a model uniquely trained for each domain.

Huawei Cloud announced the Pangu Model program in 2020. Since that time, they have made it a priority to further develop and refine these models.
