The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has created a formidable alliance with Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions. Collectively, they will deploy a joint centralized plant monitoring platform across NTPC’s sites and JVs. This deployment marks NTPC’s first venture into using a centralized monitoring solution, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency in line with India’s energy transformation goals. Integrated with Toshiba’s EtaPRO software, the system is projected to be in service by March-April of 2027.
This program will deploy the monitoring platform at currently planned and funded facilities. It’ll roll the platform out at projects that are still in the design stage. As one of the largest power producers in India, NTPC is seeking to use this new technology to increase the performance and reliable operation of the plants.
Digital Innovation in Energy
The partnership aims to highlight the role of digital innovation as a key thread through today’s energy industry transformation. By embracing the EtaPRO IoT platform, NTPC aims to improve efficiency and reliability throughout its organization. Daisuke Murata, a representative from Toshiba JSW, stated that “Toshiba JSW is driving digital transformation in power generation with EtaPRO, an IoT platform that enhances plant efficiency and reliability.”
The implementation of this platform aligns with NTPC’s commitment to contribute significantly to India’s energy transition. It’s a testament to the overall industry momentum toward adopting innovative technologies to manage and produce energy smarter and more efficiently.
Enhancing Manufacturing Excellence
Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation is committed to providing world-class, efficient solutions. They are committed to driving manufacturing excellence in service of their most important customer, NTPC. Murata highlighted the company’s proud role in supporting India’s energy transformation journey through this latest order: “With this latest order from our esteemed customer, NTPC, we are proud to contribute to India’s energy transformation journey by delivering efficient solutions, embracing digital innovation, and reinforcing manufacturing excellence.”
The platform’s deployment demonstrates NTPC’s proactive approach in adapting to modern technological advancements that promise to streamline operations across its facilities.
Future Projects and Collaborations
Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions has been on a winning streak, recently winning an order for one steam turbine and generator. Besides the project for an ongoing monitoring platform, this equipment will be provided for Unit 2 of the Patuha geothermal power plant in West Java, Indonesia. This diversifying portfolio of projects is a powerful example of how Toshiba is going global, energizing the world through power infrastructure.
Toshiba JSW is dedicated to promoting sustainable and resilient energy infrastructure — from the U.S. They supplement this with efforts such as Make in India and their proven ability to collaborate deeply across the Toshiba Group. It’s exciting to see how NTPC is advancing with this strategic partnership. It proves its leadership by adopting cutting-edge technologies to prepare for an increasingly electrified future with higher energy demand.
