Nordex, one of the top four suppliers of wind turbines, just announced winning important contracts. These contracts will advance offshore wind energy development in the U.S. and Germany. As part of the contract, the company will deliver 78 turbines to 15 separate wind farm projects. This is a historic step towards opening up new pathways for renewable energy capacity to flow into these areas.
Notably, the contracts feature an agreement with utility‐scale partner Alliant Energy for the provision of turbines in Iowa, USA. Nordex won additional orders from UKA, a developer specialized in wind and solar parks in Germany. This is the latest in the company’s developing portfolio of renewable energy projects. Each contract includes a multi-year service and maintenance agreement which will help ensure top performance and reliability of the turbines.
The turbines, which are intended to be made in Pennsylvania, are set to begin delivery in 2027. Construction and commissioning timelines will depend on the siting of each specific project. The turbines will be installed at purposeful hub heights ranging from 76 to 134 meters. Along with other equipment, they’ll be mounted on 179-meter high hybrid towers.
Models covered in this recall include N131/3600, N117/3600, N163/5.X, N149/5.X, N175/6.X, and N163/6.X. UKA has ordered a total of 33 turbines. Production of this order will result in total annual output of 224.4 megawatts (MW) under one long term framework agreement. First, we’re going to deploy our N175/6.X turbines strategically across nine wind farms. These activist farms have found a home in activist-heavy states such as North Rhine-Westphalia, Brandenburg, and Thuringia.
Gernot Gauglitz, managing partner at UKA Group, tells us that they’re pretty bullish on their project pipeline. He’s confident that they’ll just keep moving forward, despite the headwinds that the current market landscape is creating.
“In a market environment that has become more challenging, we are making good progress with the realisation of our project pipeline.” – Gernot Gauglitz
Gauglitz noted the unique importance of the turbines delivered by Nordex. He thinks they are incredibly important for making the UKA’s projects profitable enough to provide that last mile.
“The turbines we use are one of the factors contributing to the profitability of our projects. With this order, UKA has firmly ordered an additional 224MW from our premium partner Nordex.” – Gernot Gauglitz
These agreements not only strengthen Nordex’s position as a leading supplier of wind turbines in Europe but play a crucial role in advancing the region’s wind energy capacity. This first set of contracts points to a remarkable collaboration toward more sustainable energy solutions. They highlight the growing market demand for clean renewable energy sources in all markets.
