Nordex Expands Renewable Energy Footprint with New Wind Farm in Ecuador

This explains why Nordex is making a major move into Ecuador! They have won an order for 19 N149/5.X wind turbines to create a new wind park in the south of the country. This order increases the cumulative capacity to 112 megawatts (MW). This shows significant progress toward strengthening Ecuador’s renewable energy sector. The construction of this wind farm will start in October 2026. Our aim is to see it commissioned by March 2027.

The new facility will go a long way toward stabilizing Ecuador’s electricity supply. It particularly addresses the dry season across the Amazon region, when seasonal droughts can result in problematic power outages. Ecuador is currently working to better incorporate this wind farm into the country’s energy mix. This move will increase its renewable energy capacity to 181 MW.

Nordex’s Global Presence

Nordex has developed a strong U.S. They’ve done this by installing more than 57 gigawatts (GW) of wind power capacity in more than 40 markets around the world. Today, the company runs production plants across Germany, Spain, Brazil, India, and the United States and has more than 10,400 people on its payroll. In FY 2024, Nordex reached record-breaking sales of about €7.3 billion or about $8.63 billion. This excellent showing further underscores Nordex’s strong position within the booming renewable energy industry.

The company’s dedication to sustainability and innovation is apparent in its comprehensive lineup of turbine solutions. The turbines that are being installed in Ecuador are Delta4000 series turbines, which have been engineered for maximum productivity as well as dependability. These units will be installed on the 105-meter high steel tube towers, which provide the best performance of turbines across the full spectrum of wind speeds.

Recent Developments and Future Prospects

In early 2025, Nordex won a large order for 80 turbines from the Delta4000 series. This order, inducted by Umweltgerechte Kraftanlagen (UK), epitomizes the strong uptick in demand for Nordex’s advanced technology. In March of the same year, it secured an order for 16 N163/5.X turbines for a wind project located in Nova Scotia, Canada. Together with several other German companies, Nordex is extending its reach in the global wind energy market. The company has long said it wants to grow renewable energy, too.

The wind farm project in Ecuador is poised not only to generate clean energy but to create job opportunities and stimulate local economies during its construction and operational phases. With the power of these turbines combined, we’re making a huge shift away from fossil fuels. They will help increase energy security within the region as well.
