NHOA Energy joined forces with EnergyAustralia and Enerven to deliver a landmark Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project. This photo is from ARTcatch Center for the Creative Economy project near Canowie, South Australia. This cutting-edge system has a remarkable 245 MWh capacity. It is intended to enhance grid stability across the NEM (the National Electricity Market). The launch event took place at the Hallett Power Station. Local government officials, traditional owners and representatives of the company were among the packed crowd of stakeholders at the venue.
To date, the BESS has providing enhance time of up 50 megawatts (MW) of power. At its first operational capacity, it provides five hours of storage. This grid-forming solution will significantly contribute to frequency control, grid support, energy arbitrage, and participation in various market services within the NEM. In strengthening the resilience of South Australia’s power system, the project aids in the essential integration of more renewable energy sources.
Adrian Marziano, Vice President for NHOA Energy Australia and Pacific, stated:
“We are proud to support EnergyAustralia in a project that combines advanced grid-forming technology with a strong institutional framework such as the Capacity Investment Scheme, while making smart use of existing infrastructure.”
The Hallett BESS project strengthens the region’s energy security by repurposing infrastructure at Hallett Power Station. This cost-effective addition has a major effect on local energy resources. Daniel Nugent, EnergyAustralia’s trading and transition executive, highlighted the project’s benefits, saying:
“By building the battery at Hallett, we are making use of infrastructure that is already there, supporting local jobs and strengthening South Australia’s power system at the same time. Financial close means this project is real, funded and now being built, and our focus now shifts squarely to disciplined execution and delivery.”
Hallett BESS is currently scheduled for commissioning to start in January 2027. The project makes a direct impact by actively generating local jobs. Simultaneously, it’s strengthening South Australia’s energy infrastructure as it moves away from fossil fuels and toward clean energy solutions.
NHOA Energy has recently celebrated another thrilling market success, the Blyth Battery. This innovative energy storage system will together deliver a phenomenal capacity of 238.5 MW and 477 MWh, alongside the Hallett BESS project. This exciting new project is just the latest example of NHOA’s ongoing commitment to supporting the improvement of energy infrastructure within South Australia.
