Nala Renewables, led by interim CEO and energetic go-getter Remy Verot, has reached a huge milestone. The company has recently closed an important partnership with Fu-Gen, a Swiss renewable energy developer. The two companies have won the contract for a 125MW battery energy storage system (BESS) project on the Vuolijoki site in central Finland. This partnership draws on their well-established track record of delivering energy storage projects throughout the Nordic area.
The foundation for this collaboration was built in October 2025 when Nala Renewables and Fu-Gen signed a framework agreement. This agreement allowed the quick development to what is now the current project, recently announced as a shovel-ready project. Verot expressed his satisfaction with the closing of this project, stating, “We are delighted to have closed this ready-to-build project with Fu-Gen, who have demonstrated their expertise throughout.”
This project is an expansion of a prior venture between the two companies. Earlier in 2025, Nala Renewables purchased the Kauhava BESS facility—which consists of 50MW of capacity—from Fu-Gen. The strong track record of successful delivery of the Kauhava project lays a solid foundation for the Vuolijoki BESS. This achievement is a testament to the inspired teamwork between the two firms.
Beyond the Vuolijoki BESS project, Nala Renewables has been building up its portfolio even farther afield. In July 2024, the company signed an agreement to acquire a 61MW-peak solar photovoltaic project in western Romania from renewable energy group Monsson. This announcement follows recent developments reinforcing Nala Renewables’ commitment to further strengthening its renewable energy capabilities within Europe.
Vuolijoki BESS project been validated successfully on both technical and commercial viability. This landmark accomplishment represents an exciting breakthrough for Nala Renewables and Fu-Gen alike. And they are making incredible progress with this ambitious initiative. Their mission is to keep the vigorous tempo of the international renewable energy revolution and towards building a sustainable energetic future in Finland, Europe and all over the world.
