N2OFF intends to greatly expand on its solar photovoltaic project already constructed in Melz, Germany. They will integrate a battery energy storage system (BESS) sized between 40 and 60 MWp. This forward-looking investment increases the facility’s ability to store and disseminate clean energy to more communities. This helps us maximize all that extra solar energy we’re producing during peak solar hours. It enables the facility to buy power from the grid during low-price periods, maximizing the value of energy through smart management.
All three projects together comprise a striking total capacity of 111 MWp. That’s because it’s just one piece of a growing partnership between N2OFF and renewable energy development firm Solterra Renewable Energy. This partnership will help advance renewable energy projects across Europe. The principal part of their collaborative endeavor is the Melz project. The partners are preparing to deploy two additional BESS projects in Sicily, Italy – each with a capacity of 98 MWp. In addition, they have a potential 35 MW/140 MWh BESS project in Poland under development.
Commitment to Clean Energy
N2OFF’s recent investment in the Melz project closely fits N2OFF’s mission to deepen and diversify its renewable energy portfolio. The rail company is pioneering the use of advanced battery storage technology. This step will increase grid stability and reduce our state’s reliance on fossil fuels. N2OFF CEO David Palach was thrilled to have this project take shape and shared his excitement by saying,
“We are excited to take this step toward enhancing the Melz solar project with advanced battery storage technology.” – David Palach, N2OFF CEO
The BESS will allow the facility to operate in a sustainable manner, balancing renewable energy production and consumption. It will reduce the challenge of balancing supply and demand.
Strategic Collaborations
The collaboration between N2OFF and Solterra Renewable Energy goes well beyond the Melz project. The two companies have signed an exclusive agreement to jointly develop solar photovoltaic projects across Albania. This collaboration is the latest demonstration of ECC and ECP’s strategic focus on building utility-scale renewable energy capacity across multiple European markets.
The companies are currently focused on realizing two BESS projects in Sicily. They are advancing the aforementioned BESS front of the queue in Poland. Taken together, these efforts are a strong testament to N2OFF’s overall strategy to develop high-potential renewable energy facilities in Europe while utilizing best-in-class storage technologies.
Advancing Towards Development
N2OFF’s investment in the Melz solar project isn’t just a victory for innovative technology. It’s a win for regulatory progress. And with successful integration into the statutory plan, the project has an important step toward realizing ready-to-build status by early 2026. This momentum allows N2OFF to progress with confidence as it pursues new opportunities to grow its renewable energy enterprise.
Given these accomplishments, N2OFF recently filed an award nomination. This relocation is a further demonstration of the company’s continued dedication to innovating and leading the way in the renewable energy space.
