Mitsubishi Power Secures Contract for O Mon 4 Power Plant in Vietnam

Notably, Mitsubishi Power has recently secured the largest contract to date for supplying equipment to the O Mon 4 power plant in Vietnam. This integrated project is key to the country’s collective endeavor to harden and secure America’s energy infrastructure. This new facility will be a state of the art gas turbine combined cycle design with an impressive 1,155 megawatts (MW) capacity. The O Mon 4 plant will be equipped with two advanced J-series air-cooled gas turbines. Select by making this choice, … Continue reading this selection shows Mitsubishi Power’s commitment to delivering advanced technology.

The O Mon power complex already hosts the O Mon 1 plant, which consists of two units. Unit 1 went into service in 2009, followed by Unit 2 in 2015, with each unit having a capacity of 330 MW. The current O Mon 1 plant has been key to supplying the energy needs of the Mekong Delta region. It has powerfully advanced the region’s energy interests since its inception.

Expansion Plans for O Mon 1

Additionally, the O Mon 1 plant is on the cusp of expanding or converting. This project will strengthen Vietnam’s energy security and aid in its decarbonization ambitions. What exactly this project entails has yet to be announced. One thing is sure, these key developments are certainly helping these partners make ambient, stable provision of energy across the entire region!

Makoto Fujita, senior general manager of MHI’s steam power business division, highlighted the importance of the O Mon 1 plant in regional development:

“Since the start of operations for Unit 1 in 2009, the O Mon 1 Thermal Power Plant has played an important role in the development of the Mekong Delta region.”

Mitsubishi Power is already preparing for further upgrades and expansions. They seek to make a statement as the most impactful actor in Vietnam’s energy narrative.

Commitment to Sustainable Energy

Mitsubishi Power’s continued partnership with the O Mon plants is a testament to its dedication to providing sustainable energy solutions. The company was proud to be the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for the original O Mon 1 plant that already existed. It is thrilled to help supply Vietnam’s energy security and help their decarbonization journey through the forthcoming fuel conversion project.

This dedication complements Vietnam’s national aspirations to pursue a sustainable future, even as energy needs grow rapidly.

“As the OEM of the existing power plant, we are extremely proud to be able to contribute to the stable supply of energy and decarbonisation in Vietnam through our participation in this fuel conversion project.”

The O Mon 4 power plant is scheduled for completion in 2028. This accomplishment is a significant paradoxical high point in Vietnam’s energy journey. With Mitsubishi Power’s advanced technology and expertise, stakeholders are optimistic about the project’s potential to enhance energy efficiency and reliability.
