Meta Platforms Expands Renewable Energy Portfolio with New Clear Fork Solar Project

Meanwhile, Meta Platforms has announced another major step in its commitment to renewable energy. It is working to advance the Clear Fork solar project in Texas. This utility-scale facility is 600 megawatts and is the largest solar facility being built in the world at this time. It is scheduled to go into service by the summer of 2027. This project brings additional intrinsic value to Meta’s portfolio as well. The plan spans 23 wind farms, 13 solar facilities and a geothermal plant.

The Clear Fork project will take place in two phases. We anticipate that both the first phase and the much bigger second phase would be up and running by 2030. Once operational, the facility will produce enough renewable electricity to supply the equivalent of about 1.3 million homes annually. This expansion reflects Meta’s strategy to meet the growing demand for renewable energy from technology and data center operations across North America.

Investment and Financial Impact

Meta Platforms anticipates the $1 billion investment into the Clear Fork site to enhance cash flow, as well as earnings per share. They expect this beneficial effect to start in 2027. The strategic decision to invest in renewable energy projects aligns with the company’s broader sustainability goals, ensuring that its operations are powered by 100% clean energy.

As we reported in June 2025, Meta’s most recent collaboration was with XGS Energy. Collectively, they are working to develop a 150 megawatt geothermal energy project in New Mexico. This joint procurement is a demonstration of Meta’s commitment to diversifying its renewable energy portfolio. Now, along with wind and solar, they’re fully on board with geothermal.

Clear Fork Project Details

Movement on the Clear Fork site construction started well before the July 23, 2025 build-out deadline. This was the final critical step in making this ambitious and complicated solar project a reality. The facility will enjoy access to Texas’s rich solar resources. Only in the ‘Sunshine State’ could one believe that legislation imperiling solar energy makes good sense.

Matthew Akman highlighted the significance of the Clear Fork project, stating, “Clear Fork demonstrates the growing demand for renewable power across North America from blue-chip companies who are involved in technology and data centre operations.” This declaration further points out the central role that large-scale renewable projects can play in helping these corporations achieve their sustainability goals.

Clear Fork’s phased approach allows to rollout new capacity strategically. This dual-pronged strategy puts Meta in a good position to continue to meet its energy needs while playing a critical role in maintaining the developing renewable energy market in Texas.
