Kilvinane Wind Farm Set for Major Upgrade Following Approval in Cork

Cork Sustainable Energy Limited (CSEL), the Irish subsidiary of Ameresco, has some Very Good News! An Bord Pleanála has cleared the way for a major upgrade for the Kilvinane Wind Farm. Situated 8 km east of Dunmanway in County Cork, the wind farm today is home to three turbines. This upgrade represents a transformational victory for renewable energy advocates working in Ireland.

When completed, the improvements to Kilvinane Wind Farm will nearly double its capacity. This improvement will allow the farm to produce about 8,500 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy annually. This new rate is set to become a key driver to help power Ireland on track with its ambitious renewable energy goals. With this cleaner energy, the renovated facility will help power thousands of homes and businesses in the community throughout the region.

Mark Apsey, senior vice-president for Ameresco UK and Ireland, said he was excited about the prospects of the project.

“The upgrade will ensure the efficient operation of the wind farm and contribute to Ireland’s ambitious renewable energy targets, providing cleaner energy to thousands of homes and businesses.” – Mark Apsey, Ameresco senior vice-president UK and Ireland

The approval marks another step towards the Philippines’ sustainable energy solution and brings much-needed clarity for wind farm operators across the country. Apsey emphasized how consequential this decision could be in encouraging subsequent advances in the rapidly growing industry.
