Innergex Renewable Energy Secures Three Wind Projects in BC Hydro’s Latest RFP

Innergex Renewable Energy has committed to three wind projects in British Columbia. Combined, these projects will have a massive gross capacity of 560 megawatts (MW). BC Hydro just opened up a second RFP. This new initiative is aimed at increasing renewable energy generation throughout the province. Those K2, Nithi Mountain, and Stewart Creek wind projects are expected to start commercial operation in 2030 and 2031.

The K2 wind project, with a capacity of 160 MW, is strategically located 33 kilometers west of Peachland/Westbank in British Columbia’s central interior. Innergex is co-developing this project with the Westbank First Nation, in a joint venture. Innergex has a 49% interest, with the Indigenous partner keeping a 51% equity stake. This new partnership represents Innergex’s ongoing effort to work meaningfully with Indigenous communities.

The Nithi Mountain wind project, in the Bulkley-Nechako region of Northern British Columbia. It has an incredible capacity of 200 MW! In this case, the Stellat’en First Nation has a 51% equity interest, Innergex a 49% interest. The Stewart Creek wind project home in our Peace Region of Northeastern BC. It has a capacity of 200 MW, is 51% owned by the West Moberly First Nations, with Innergex holding the other 49%.

Innergex Renewable Energy is one of the largest independent operators located primarily in Canada, the United States, France and Chile. Its portfolio of 89 operating facilities has a net aggregate installed capacity of 3.3 gigawatts (GW). This portfolio includes 42 hydroelectric, 35 wind, nine solar and three battery energy storage facilities. Michel Letellier, the company’s president and CEO, noted that Innergex is firmly committed to producing clean energy from these projects. He further described their focus on providing long-term advantages to the Indigenous communities that participate in the development of the process itself.

These wind projects are an example of Innergex’s perseverance to progress British Columbia’s energy transition. They deliver some of the most competitive renewable energy solutions available. As a company, they work together with Indigenous partners to strengthen relationships and develop cultural understanding. The tactic advances their mission, which includes building lasting relationships in the communities where they run.
