Hassan Allam Utilities and Infinity Power Launch Major Renewable Energy Projects in Egypt

Hassan Allam Utilities Energy Platform sister company joined forces with Infinity Power. Together, they are developing two flagship renewable energy power plants in Egypt. These completed projects have a combined 1,200 megawatts (MW) of solar capacity and 720 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery storage capacity. Their output is important to Egypt’s wider plan for increasing its renewable energy portfolio. This annual funding initiative is a big step towards the nation’s goal of increasing renewable energy to 42% by 2030. By 2040, we plan to make that share 65%.

The projects are projected to reach commercial operations in stages between the 3 rd quarter of 2026 and the 3 rd quarter of 2027. Collectively, these billion-dollar projects represent a $2 billion investment. The partnership, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and Meridiam, has now successfully closed deals. They are currently working in partnership with Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company.

Project Details

We are starting up the world’s largest 200 MW solar power plant in Benban. It will be paired with a first-of-its-kind, 120 MWh battery storage capacity. In addition, a bigger solar facility in Minya will produce 1,000 MW solar power with 600 MWh storage. The Benban solar project is expected to begin commercial operation in Q3 2026. The Minya facility is currently scheduled to be operational by Q3 2027.

Tunisia and Egypt are both making clean energy policy moves at a historic and important time. These efforts will enhance its energy resilience and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The projects will significantly advance Egypt’s National Energy Strategy. Their goal is to increase the contribution of renewables in the overall energy mix and achieve better stability of the grid through advanced storage technologies.

The Broader Impact

Hassan Allam Utilities Energy Platform has a robust development pipeline. It now has 2.3 GW under development and a pipeline of 1.65 GW, including 350 MW of solar projects and 1.3 GW of wind projects. This broad portfolio illustrates the consortium’s dedication to assisting Egypt’s move toward a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.

Omar Hosny, vice-president for energy and water at Hassan Allam Utilities, called the signing of the agreement “an important milestone”.

“This agreement represents a meaningful step forward in Egypt’s energy transition. Through our partnership with the Ministry of Electricity and Infinity Power, we are advancing projects that diversify the energy mix, enhance grid resilience, and pave the way for a more sustainable future.” – Omar Hosny

This new partnership with Infinity Power will go a long way towards helping them do so. Their goal is 10 GW of operational capacity by 2030. Ahmed Mulla of Infinity Power spoke strongly to this commitment.

“These projects reaffirm Infinity Power’s commitment to driving Egypt’s clean energy transformation and expanding access to sustainable power solutions across Africa.” – Ahmed Mulla
