Located in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley Area of Alaska, GridStor has recently launched the Gunnar Reliability Project. This largest battery energy storage facility is located in Hidalgo County, Texas. This project has an enormous capacity of 150 megawatts (MW) and 300 megawatt-hours (MWh). The goal is to improve energy reliability dramatically in the Lower Rio Grande Valley territory.
The Gunnar Reliability Project is designed to supply power equivalent to the demand of approximately 95,000 average Texas households during peak demand periods. This program will be essential to providing a reliable energy supply, including for times of peak demand. The project is slated to come online by late 2026, representing a significant step forward in the development of the region’s energy infrastructure.
In December 2025, GridStor entered into a third tolling agreement, this time for the Gunnar Reliability Project, with a Fortune 500 company. This dramatic step signaled the deep commercial appetite for the project’s potential. The firm recently announced a $120 million financing package. This investment was provided by NORD/LB and Siemens Financial Services. This financing round is a cornerstone for the realization of the project and an acknowledgment of growing confidence in GridStor’s vision.
Chris Taylor, CEO of GridStor, underlined this major milestone for the young company’s significance.
“This transaction marks a significant milestone in our disciplined portfolio growth, focused on contracted revenues.” – Chris Taylor
GridStor’s development pipeline now tops 3 gigawatts (GW) primarily across western and central United States. One key driver of this growth is the Gunnar Reliability Project. This project stands as a testament to GridStor’s commitment towards building on its portfolio. It highlights the extent of the company’s commitment to addressing energy reliability in those regions with the greatest need.
Commenting on the financing side, Sondra Martinez from NORD/LB said she was very optimistic about the direction GridStor was taking.
“We are proud to have led another successful financing for Gridstor.” – Sondra Martinez
To date, the Gunnar Reliability Project remains a stellar example of GridStor’s foresight, careful planning and scalability for the future of energy. The call for cleaner, more affordable, and more reliable sources of energy has never been greater. This new facility stands poised to further deepen their regional and national impact for years to come.
