Green Highland Signs Long-Term Contract to Operate Historic Kinlochleven Hydropower Station

Green Highland, a Voith subsidiary, has recently signed a multi-year contract. In particular, they will be running and maintaining the engine room of the historic Kinlochleven hydropower station located deep in the Scottish Highlands. Though this monumental agreement, the plant’s performance will be greatly improved. Since its commissioning in 1909, the plant has provided a keystone of renewable energy. The contract not only extends the lifespan of the facility but combines Voith Hydro’s global technical resources with Green Highland’s local operational expertise.

The Kinlochleven generating station contains three 10MW Francis turbines and is fed by a dam, pipelines and the Blackwater Reservoir. It’s a simple but beautiful process. These elements combine to make use of the natural movement of the water to create electricity for the local communities. Currently, Kinlochleven is one of the oldest hydropower plants still in operation in the UK. Since the early 1900s, it’s been an indispensable part of the energy ecosystem that defines the region.

Commitment to Improvement and Compliance

Green Highland now has a new agreement. Their vision is to create a facility that is not only modernized, but will further enhance the operations and efficiency. The modernization efforts go a long way towards making sure that Kinlochleven can be competitive in the ever-changing energy marketplace.

Green Highland is dedicated to maintaining health, safety, environmental and quality standards during all its operations. The firm plans to establish a comprehensive set of protocols to protect the safety and integrity of operations while reducing impacts on the environment.

“This landmark agreement is a significant step forward in the expansion of our long-term service portfolio for our customers around the globe.” – Sunil Pandiri

Continuity and Local Expertise

Members of the ongoing Kinlochleven team joined Green Highland to guarantee continuity while taking advantage of their site-specific knowledge. This transition is all about torturing people. Most importantly, it taps into the priceless wisdom that our veteran staff teachers bring to the table. Veteran local hands have been joining Green Highland’s principals. As a result of this partnership and collaboration, long-lasting positive effects will be realized for the facility as well as its employees.

Green Highlanders are committed to building local capacity. That’s why they’ve chosen to hire all their original workers back and keep their workforce largely unchanged. By fusing local knowledge with some of the best technical resources in the world, the company hopes to get the very most from operational Kinlochleven.

Leadership Remarks

Alex Reading, Managing Director of Green Highland, expressed pride in taking over the management of such a significant historical site.

“It’s an honour to be trusted with the full operation and maintenance of Kinlochleven,” – Alex Reading

His remarks underscore Green Highland’s dedication to preserving the legacy of this historic hydropower station while simultaneously driving it into a more sustainable future.
