GE Vernova recently made headlines after signing a multi-million-dollar, multi-year agreement with Greenvolt Power. They will provide onshore wind turbines for the Gurbanesti wind farm, located in Călărași county, Romania. This strategic partnership of Husky, WindMD and Enel will install 42 advanced wind turbines across the province. Each turbine is rated at 6.1 megawatts, with a rotor diameter of 158 meters. The scope under contract goes beyond the supply of these cutting-edge turbines to include the installation and commissioning of them.
This latest agreement underscores GE Vernova’s swift accomplishments in Romania. It was their second major onshore wind contract in less than two months. The earlier contract stipulated the supply of a similar number of turbines for the Ialomița wind farm. This underscores GE Vernova’s growing footprint in Romania’s renewable energy sector.
Advancing Renewable Energy Goals
The Gurbanesti and Ialomița projects are expected to significantly contribute to Romania’s renewable energy targets, which aim for substantial expansion by 2030. Combined, these two initiatives will add to our energy capacity by a whopping 500-plus megawatts. This amount of power has the potential to supply 97% of residential customers’ annual needs at the new facilities combined.
According to GE Vernova, these offshore wind farms will create hundreds of full-time, family-sustaining jobs at peak periods of construction. This job creation will help revitalize local economies in a meaningful way. Gilan Sabatier, GE Vernova’s onshore wind international markets chief commercial officer, made it clear how vital this collaboration is.

Recognition and Innovation
GE Vernova is deeply honored to have received three 2025 Power Technology Excellence Awards. This recent recognition acknowledges its continued leadership in the renewable energy space. The net-metered company continues to push the envelope with smart microgrids and distributed renewable generation. Together, that makes it a critical, frontline actor in the world’s green energy transition.
As a proof point, just last month GE Vernova announced a new partnership with Greenvolt Power. Together, this partnership seeks to accelerate the deployment and generation of renewable energy in Romania and across the globe. This alignment with Greenvolt is just one example of GE Vernova’s commitment to advancing clean energy technologies and supporting local energy initiatives.
A Bright Future for Renewable Energy
Romania as a country is clearly hungry to pile on its renewable energy potential. Deals such as the one signed between GE Vernova and Greenvolt Power will be key in helping get the country to its national goals. The partnership ensures that there is a deep understanding of the necessary progression towards clean energy infrastructure and economic stimulation through job creation.
