FlexGen Expands Energy Storage Capabilities with Powin Acquisition

FlexGen, one of the hottest new providers of distributed energy storage solutions recently made a splash. They have taken ownership of Powin’s intellectual property, which significantly enhances their arsenal in the energy sector. FlexGen completed a tactical acquisition in August 2025. This decision gives them the confidence to finally take ownership of Powin’s market-leading intellectual property portfolio, including hardware and software IP, information technology systems and an extensive inventory of spare parts.

This acquisition furthers FlexGen’s ability to help its customers manage more than 25 gigawatt hours (GWh) of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This remarkable capacity extends to 200 projects in ten countries. This expansion significantly increases FlexGen’s operational capacity. Beyond that, it’s an important signal of the company’s commitment to delivering dependable, cost-saving energy innovations in a dynamic global marketplace.

Strategic Partnership with Trina Storage

In April 2025, FlexGen entered into a significant partnership with Trina Storage to implement a 371 megawatt hours BESS in Houston, Texas. This partnership is a first-of-its-kind for the industry, and exemplifies both companies’ commitment to continue developing and deploying cutting-edge sustainable energy technologies.

FlexGen’s CEO, Kelcy Pegler, emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating, “With this acquisition, we will continue to deliver the reliability and intelligence the grid, data centres and communities need to thrive in a world of growing energy needs.” The joint development with Trina Storage will help create stronger energy resilience and efficiency for more customers.

FlexGen’s deep experience makes us uniquely qualified to offer seamless continuity right away for Powin customers. We’re geared up to help them succeed in making the transition.

“Our top priority is customer success and delivering immediate operational stability, maximizing the value and performance of their systems,” Pegler added. He recognized Powin’s early efforts to help establish the grid-scale battery market, thanking them for helping set the stage for what was possible in the industry.

“We thank Powin for their early-mover role in shaping the dynamic and important grid-scale battery market and honour our commitment to carry on that legacy and deliver exceptional uptime, reliability and customer success.” – Kelcy Pegler
