European Energy Expands Italian Solar Portfolio with New Contracts

This has allowed European Energy to substantially increase its renewable energy presence in Italy. Most recently, they won contracts to deploy 513 megawatts (MW) of solar projects. We are pleased with the successful completion and launch of the Troia solar park, which represents a key milestone. When it connected to the grid last year, it became Italy’s biggest solar park.

Foresight’s strategic focus on large-scale photovoltaic assets covers all major regions in Italy – Sicily, Apulia and Molise. Every single project under this new initiative has an excellent revenue structure due to the FerX auction format. Such an approach ensures highly predictable pricing and reliable revenues for the full length of their operational lifetimes.

Troia Solar Park: A Milestone Achievement

European Energy finished the Troia solar park in 2021, a first of its kind project for Italy and a history-making feat in Europe’s renewable energy landscape. Almost two years after the first installation began, in 2022, the park officially plugged into the grid. This action secured its position as the largest solar installation in the country at the time. The successful completion of this project further demonstrated European Energy’s dedication to progressive renewable energy solutions across Italy.

In addition to the Troia solar park, European Energy has been proactive in establishing partnerships to enhance its operational efficiency. The company recently reached a long-term agreement to operate three solar parks for Heartland. This agreement will begin in January 2026 for the Gedmose solar park, which is situated outside of Holstebro, Denmark. This strategic acquisition is an affirmation of European Energy’s commitment to long-term sustainability and operational excellence.

“This project underscores European Energy’s role in advancing Europe’s green transition. The company’s continued commitment to the Italian market is reflected in this development, which supports Italy’s renewable energy ambitions.” – Thorvald Spanggaard

Expanding Horizons in Italy

The recent auction results have positioned European Energy to secure or sign up to 15 contracts for difference (CfDs) or power purchase agreements for its renewable assets. These CfDs are a vital mechanism to deliver financing certainty and predictability for each individual project. Their logic leads to an excellent, straightforward road map for advancing renewable energy programs across Italy.

European Energy’s Alessandro Migliorini, a company spokesperson, said he was hopeful that the coast would soon be clear for their projects to move ahead.

“The auction outcome provides clarity for the next steps in progressing these photovoltaic projects across Sicily, Apulia and Molise. The awarded tariffs offer a stable framework for the development of these projects.” – Alessandro Migliorini

The latest auction, the first held since the PTC was extended, awarded projects between 20 MW and 225 MW. This demonstrates European Energy’s competence in handling solar installations large or small with high precision.

Innovative Approaches to Renewable Energy

Of all the development efforts comprising their diversified Italian portfolio, the Vizzini solar park in Sicily is certainly a remarkable achievement. This project aims to combine agricultural production with solar power generation, showcasing an innovative approach that maximizes land use while contributing to sustainability goals.

European Energy is increasing its international activities in Italy and beyond. The company remains committed to leading innovation in renewable energy. The company’s strategic initiatives reflect broader efforts to support Italy’s environmental goals and transition towards greener energy solutions.
