Green tech company Envision Energy has just landed a huge smart-city agreement with REE Group. They will provide used offshore wind turbines for two nearshore development projects in Vietnam. The collaboration will install 16 advanced EN-226/8.XMW turbines. This will be the country’s first deployment of large-rotor, high-capacity offshore turbines! Initially, developers were hoping to see a complete grid interconnection by October 2026.
The chosen locations for these projects have average wind speeds greater than 7 meters per second. This, in turn, provides great opportunities for tapping renewable energy sources! The EN-226/8.XMW turbine model has already proven its worth by successfully operating for more than three years in multiple offshore projects throughout China. Today, it is poised to be instrumental in maximizing energy generation and improving productivity.
Ashok Ramachandran, General Manager of REE Renewable commented on the collaboration, saying that when deciding to enter a partnership with a company Envision Energy was the clear choice.
“We selected Envision Energy as our turbine supplier based on their technological leadership in renewable energy, the maturity and reliability of the EN-226/8.XMW platform, and their extensive experience in gigawatt-scale grid-connected operations.” – Ashok Ramachandran
The two projects are slated to start simultaneously. This is a significant step forward in Vietnam’s efforts to build upon their existing renewable energy groundwork. This collaboration establishes the first nearshore offshore wind project cluster to be delivered under Vietnam’s Power Development Plan VIII.
Edward Hou, Senior Vice President and President of Envision Energy Asia-Pacific. He is convinced the partnership can change the trajectory of the region’s clean energy landscape.
“This collaboration marks the first nearshore offshore wind project cluster delivered under Vietnam’s Power Development Plan VIII and opens a new chapter for offshore wind development in South East Asia.” – Edward Hou
The strategic partnership between Envision Energy and GES, established in November 2025, aims to scale battery energy storage systems alongside wind power initiatives across Spain and broader Europe. This collaborative initiative aims to drive Europe’s transition to clean, affordable energy faster.
Vietnam is placing a big emphasis on renewable energy development. This unique initiative addresses the energy needs of local communities and puts the country at the forefront of sustainable practices in Southeast Asia. Their successful implementation would act as a proof of concept for more comprehensive offshore wind deployments throughout the entire Northeast region.
