Engie Romania Expands Renewable Footprint with Acquisition of Major Wind Project

CEEC Engie Romania today announced that it has acquired a large 612 MW wind project in Romania, located in Ialomița County, Romania. Greenvolt Power is presently under active construction on this project, which will consist of 42 high-efficiency turbines. By its anticipated completion in 2027, it will be one of the biggest wind installations in the country. The acquisition marks a strategic move for Engie Romania to enhance its renewable energy portfolio and contribute to the energy transition across Europe.

The wind project was awarded a 15-year contract for difference for most of its capacity. This deal provides a predictable source of long-term revenue which strengthens the overall investment attractiveness of the project. This acquisition is in line with Engie Romania’s real strong transformation – alliance with a long-term plan of reaching 95GW of renewables + storage capacity by 2030.

Strategic Expansion in Renewable Energy

Engie Romania’s acquisition is the biggest move yet to grow its footprint in the Romanian market. The company will double its renewable footprint with this large-scale, utility-owned wind project. It will be an important tool for increasing supply security all over Europe.

Speaking in a statement about acquiring stake Cristian Buzan vice-president of Engie Romania called this development “key”. He stated,

“By integrating a large-scale wind project of this size into our portfolio, we are doubling our renewable footprint in a market with strong growth potential, while contributing to security of supply and the achievement of our net-zero carbon ambition by 2045.”

Engie is seriously committed to sustainability and renewable energy. This acquisition underscores the company’s innovation-first approach to energy production.

Sustainable Goals and Energy Transition

Beyond job and economic growth, the wind project exemplifies a larger push for energy transition and sustainability in Romania and across Europe. Greenvolt Group CEO João Manso Neto underscored the importance of this project in his remarks. He stated,

“Greenvolt’s ability to originate, develop and bring to market high-quality renewable energy assets is once again demonstrated through this project, which represents a clear contribution to the European energy transition and to Romania in particular.”

Once completed, this wind project will more than double Engie Romania’s renewable capacity. It will be critical for ensuring a smooth transition as we deploy more clean, renewable energy.

Long-Term Impact on Energy Supply

Europe is in a hurry to find alternatives to Russian fossil fuels and is boosting the urgency of the transition to clean energy. Projects like this wind installation are needed now more than ever. Integration of these types of renewable energy resources is critical to being able to power greater energy needs with less carbon.

The wind project will be the largest impact on Romania’s energy landscape. …to continue to lead the way into a clean, more efficient future. Engie Romania’s proactive measures in diversifying its energy sources reflect an ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation within the energy sector.
