Engie, one of the world’s largest energy firms, just announced a really cool 15 year renewable PPA with Apple. This collaboration has a goal of building green energy plants in southern Italy. This collaboration marks a pivotal step in Engie’s efforts to expand its renewable energy portfolio and support Apple’s sustainability goals. The new projects will begin service between 2026 and 2027. Meanwhile, together they will only have a combined installed capacity of 173 megawatts (MW).
Engie will also build two new wind farms, to provide a total capacity of 74 MW. Plus, they will repower an older wind farm, increasing its capacity to 11 MW. With this shared solar agreement, they’ll also be developing two agrivoltaic facilities—combined, those total 88 MW. Each project is a demonstration of Engie’s innovation mindset at play, with an understanding that renewable energy is powered by many unique technologies.
Environmental Impact and Sustainable Solutions
The renewable energy plants are expected to produce more than 400 GWh of electricity each year. This huge expansion is forecasted to avoid more than 160,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year. This reduction in emissions is similar to taking about 70,000 average internal combustion engine vehicles off the road for a year.
Engie’s existing energy portfolio in Italy currently only includes 773 MW of installed capacity. This entails a broad set of renewable assets, like utility-scale PV, wind farms, and behind-the-meter storage batteries. This new partnership with Apple adds to Engie’s momentum as a green energy solutions leader in the region.
Commitment to Energy Transition
Edouard Neviaski, Engie’s global business unit supply and energy management executive vice-president-in-charge, said The significance of this partnership cannot be overstated. He stated, “This agreement with Apple demonstrates Engie’s ambition to lead the energy transition by delivering innovative with diverse technologies.”
Through innovative partnerships such as this one, Engie is helping further accelerate the worldwide transition to a carbon-neutral future. Neviaski added, “Through strategic partnerships like this one, we are accelerating the shift toward a carbon-neutral future, accompanying our clients in their sustainability journey.”
Future Prospects
Engie’s new renewable masterpieces in Italy have an ambitious touch. Aligned with this innovation, it is still passionate about bringing the energy solutions of the future to the demands of a changing world. The deal with Apple seems like a great fit with Engie’s business strategy. It’s the world’s most important tool for helping other countries tackle climate change.
