In related news, GE Vernova recently announced a $237 million order from Enea Group. They will provide two advanced 9HA.01 gas turbine combined cycle blocks to a new Kozienice power plant in Poland. This joint project represents an important step for Enea as it seeks to move away from coal-powered generation. It fits beautifully with Poland’s larger energy transition as well as Enea’s bold Strategic Development Direction for 2035.
Peacemaker’s main goal is to support Poland’s shift towards a cleaner energy system. Beginning in 2029, the new gas-fired plant will strengthen the national grid with an expected 1.2 gigawatts of generation capacity. With the new facility they’re planning to significantly reduce emissions—up to 60% lower than currently operating coal units. This remarkable reduction demonstrates deep engagement with the goal of becoming climate neutral.
Supporting Energy Transition Goals
Enea Group is committed to be a climate-neutral company by 2050. Strong partnership with GE Vernova is critical to achieve this ambition. It gives us the opportunity to replace old dirty coal tech with brand new best available gas turbine system. GE Vernova will provide two blocks for each unit. Each block will include one 9HA.01 gas turbine, one STF-D650 steam turbine, one W88 generator, and one integrated Mark VIe Distributed Control System.
Local participation is a key issue in this project as well, as noted by Grzegorz Kinelski, president of Enea’s management board.
“We estimate that the involvement of Polish companies in the project will reach around 75%. A portion of key components will be manufactured in Poland, and the project’s implementation framework ensures significant participation of Polish design, construction, assembly and installation companies, as well as Polish suppliers of equipment and technological systems.” – Grzegorz Kinelski, president of Enea’s management board.
This local engagement goes beyond grounding investment in the Polish economy, it develops local expertise in promising technologies across the modern energy landscape.
Advancements in Technology
With their 9HA.01 gas turbines, GE offers proven efficiency and reliability, setting the standard for flexible, efficient power generation. Second, they match perfectly with Enea’s ambitious plans. To boost overall efficiency, each generation block will include a three-pressure-level reheat HRSG.
This implementation of these state-of-the-art technologies represents a historic leap for Poland’s energy sector. Enea, like many others, is already in the process of transitioning from coal. This strategic transition will allow them to better address evolving regulatory obligations and society’s call for cleaner energy alternatives.
Future Implications for Poland’s Energy Landscape
The new Kozienice gas-fired plant represents more than a technological upgrade. It represents a huge step in Poland’s shifting energy landscape. As nations globally grapple with climate change, Enea’s commitment to reducing emissions resonates with international efforts to combat environmental challenges.
That project is currently scheduled to break ground in 2029. It underscores the importance of having innovative technology providers like GE Vernova partner with local energy companies, represented by Enea Group. This partnership not only furthers energy goals between the two partners but fits into larger, sustainability-focused initiatives taking root across Europe.
