EDPR NA has commercially operationalized its Riverstart Solar IV project in Indiana. This is an important advance in the corporate giant’s promise to bring more clean energy options to a landscape long dominated by fossil fuels. This new solar venture promises to invest $65 million in local development agreements by 2038. Beyond jobs, it will provide a significant sustainable boost to the local economy while enhancing Indiana’s power grid.
Operating at full capacity, Riverstart Solar IV will produce enough clean electricity to supply power to more than 28,800 homes and businesses each year. This significant production increases the commonwealth’s energy independence and supports local, regional economic development. The completed project will pump more than $88.6 million into the region’s economy. This further emphasizes EDPR NA’s dedication to sustainable development and community engagement.
The investment plan allocates $51.4 million for essential public services, including infrastructure improvements for roads, schools, parks, and emergency services. The $35 million more that will flow directly to landowners’ real estate option payments. At the same time, $2.2 million will be focused on projects that strengthen the local economy. Riverstart Solar IV would be expected to create 625 short-term construction jobs. This project will dramatically improve access to jobs for the underserved community that surrounds the area.
Through its contributions of more than $565,000 to local organizations, EDPR NA demonstrates its commitment to community engagement and investment. This support extends to popular workforce development initiatives such as 4-H and the National FFA Organization. The company’s diversity initiatives are all part of a larger strategy to not only get development projects built, but to deliver projects that best serve local communities.
As Indiana’s largest clean energy operator, we’re proud to continue to bring entertaining projects like Riverstart Solar home. Besides increasing the state’s energy independence and reliability, these initiatives support economic growth and sustainability, said Sandhya Ganapathy, CEO of EDP Renewables North America.
Ganapathy further emphasized the project’s impact on the region, stating, “This is homegrown energy infrastructure that strengthens the regional grid, delivers steady revenue for vital local services and generates millions in long-term investment to Randolph County – all while ensuring that Indiana’s power supply remains reliable, affordable and secure for its communities and businesses.”
EDPR NA is ramping up its clean energy leadership in Indiana with Riverstart Solar IV. With this expansion, their total capacity so far will be a stunning 2 gigawatts (GW)! In business lingo, this booming growth is the company’s latest unicorns. It nationalizes our commitment to improving and expanding renewable energy resources across the state, while revitalizing our economy and building strong community development.
