Duke Energy Expands Capacity with New Agreement for GE Vernova Turbines

Duke Energy’s new agreement with GE Vernova could be a huge step in that direction. As part of the project they will purchase up to 11 American manufactured new natural gas turbines. This agreement increases permits for Duke Energy to build their capacity for meeting growing appetite for electricity. In the end, riders will benefit from safer and more dependable service.

The deal is mostly an agreement on the future deployment of up to 11 7HA combined cycle gas turbine. So far, Duke Energy has successfully received eight turbines from GE Vernova. This success story showcases the deep collaboration between the two companies. At the same time, energy demand is increasing at a record rate. This new structure is key for Duke Energy to secure the capital it needs to invest in critical infrastructure.

Beyond delivering turbines, GE Vernova is in the midst of an expansion of its manufacturing complex in Greenville, South Carolina. This upgrade is part of a broader $600 million investment plan aimed at bolstering manufacturing operations within the United States. Almost $300 million of this total investment is specifically targeted at improving GE Vernova’s Gas Power operations.

GE Vernova is focused on replacing obsolete, low production and capacity facilities, with streamlined lean manufacturing systems at the Greenville facility. This strategic change will radically improve the company’s supplier capacity and best serve electric companies such as Duke Energy.

Nationally, the upgrade to the Greenville factory is expected to create more than 1,500 new jobs. This decision underlines GE Vernova’s commitment to improving efficiency and quality, while investing in American manufacturing. The company’s Gas Power operations are the center of the company’s investment strategy. This emphasizes the key role that this industry sector can play in meeting today’s and tomorrow’s energy needs.

Harry Sideris, an executive with Duke Energy, underlined the significance of this agreement given increased demand for energy.

“As we continue to experience unprecedented growth in our service territories, securing the necessary materials to build critical infrastructure and meet the energy demand is integral to delivering value for our customers and other stakeholders.” – Harry Sideris

Scott Strazik, GE Vernova’s CEO, noted the importance of their collaboration with Duke Energy.

“This arrangement with Duke Energy and the significant expansion of our US manufacturing facilities illustrate our ability and commitment to developing innovative solutions that our customers require to meet today and tomorrow’s energy demands. We are proud to be able to supply these Greenville, SC, manufactured gas turbines to a leading US energy company and service to its consumers.” – Scott Strazik
