Cadent has selected DNV as the owner’s engineer for front-end engineering design (FEED) of the proposed H2East Pipeline. This new pipeline will deliver hydrogen from production electrolyzers across the Humber estuary to industrial demand centers in South Humberside, and potentially to a hub in nearby Nottinghamshire. This landmark project is set to play an important part in forming the UK’s hydrogen transmission network. Due for completion by February 2026, the H2East Pipeline is intended to foster industrial decarbonisation and energy security with burgeoning green hydrogen infrastructure.
The H2East Pipeline project will lay the groundwork for transporting hydrogen from production facilities right to important industrial hubs. This very important connection supports the transition of the north-east of the UK with a new energy source low in carbon. In this way, it plays a tremendously important role to decarbonise heavy industry. The project brings online the first segments of urgently needed transmission capacity. Together, these actions form a robust legal bedrock for realizing a sustainable clean energy future.
Enhancing Energy Security and Employment
The H2East Pipeline takes us one step further to decarbonisation. It further bolsters the region’s energy security too, making this a truly essential initiative. By ensuring a safe and credible hydrogen transmission network, we can help prevent our further reliance on adverse fossil fuels. This step will bolster the UK’s pledge to build a greener economy. In addition, the project is anticipated to generate thousands of long-term, regional jobs boosting economic development across South Humberside and Nottinghamshire.
Join DNV in taking on the vital responsibility of ensuring the integrity of our crucial infrastructure. This includes oversight and quality assurance of the FEED contractor’s work. We have become much more deliberate in making sure that our designs are technically sound and buildable. Moreover, we tie it to stringent safety and performance standards unique to hydrogen. DNV’s expertise in risk management will play a pivotal part in safeguarding the project’s overall success.
A Foundation for Industrial Decarbonisation
The H2East Pipeline will provide new, essential low-carbon dispatchable power. This flexible energy source will be fundamental for decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors of our economy. By linking hydrogen production locations with demand centres, it creates new avenues for sectors like transportation, manufacturing and more to transition to cleaner energy sources. The project is just one piece of the UK’s larger plan to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.
Cadent’s participation in this project highlights its desire to be at the forefront of the transition toward a cleaner energy future. The H2East Pipeline is a bold commitment to regional infrastructure. It will address our pressing energy needs and pave the way for long-term breakthroughs in sustainable energy innovation.
