DHL Partners with EnBW to Harness Renewable Energy from He Dreiht Offshore Wind Farm

In another noteworthy development, delivery giant DHL has signed a large partnership with EnBW. Together they will buy power from the He Dreiht offshore wind plant in the German North Sea. This new partnership is an important move for each company as they work to broaden the scope and accessibility of sustainable energy technology. The agreement begins in 2026. That is when DHL will begin purchasing 80 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity each year from the wind farm.

He Dreiht will be one of the biggest offshore wind projects in Europe. This is quite remarkable as it has an installed capacity of 960 megawatts (MW). To power the project, 64 Vestas V236-15 turbines will be utilized, with each turbine capable of producing 15 MW. That would make it the first commercial deployment of these more advanced turbines. With this capacity, He Dreiht can deliver renewable energy to around 1.1 million homes.

A Groundbreaking Project

He Dreiht is an innovative and uncommon project even within the renewable energy industry. It is one of the very first offshore wind farms constructed entirely without government subsidies. The proposal ushers in an unprecedented level of commitment to use clean, renewable energy, matching the global effort to fight climate change.

Given the scale of the wind farm’s construction, it will be brought online in several stages, with the final stage expected to be operational by spring 2026. DHL’s commitment to purchasing electricity from He Dreiht highlights its dedication to sustainability and reflects a broader trend towards renewable energy adoption in logistics.

Commitment to Sustainability

Deutsche Post DHL is indeed committed to achieving zero logistics emissions by 2050. The electricity produced from He Dreiht will be a key component toward realizing this exciting target. The collaboration marks another step by DHL to solidify its status as one of the most influential sustainable energy players in Europe. Together, the renewable power produced will more than cover the equivalent of DHL’s current annual electricity consumption in Germany of about 16%.

“The deal with EnBW is another important step on our path to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in logistics by 2050.” – Anna Spinelli

EnBW’s deep experience with the project further cements its commitment to offering innovative, sustainable energy solutions.

“We are delighted to support DHL Group on its journey towards zero-emission logistics. This partnership underscores our position as a major provider of sustainable energy across Europe.” – Matthias Obert

Future of Energy

As the world moves more and more toward renewable sources, it is projects like He Dreiht that will provide important steppingstones toward greener alternatives. DHL and EnBW have joined forces to achieve a new milestone in renewable energy production. With this collaboration, we hope to set the precedent for more partnerships of this nature across the energy industry.

With all these new developments, He Dreiht is poised to help create the future of energy supply for Europe. At the same time, it will assist logistics companies including DHL as they pursue their ambitious sustainability goals.
