In addition, construction is already underway for the Korlat solar photovoltaic project, located in Croatia. Once operational in 2026, it will be the nation’s largest solar power plant. This very ambitious project hopes to at least double that, reaching a capacity of 99 megawatts peak (MWp). It is a remarkable step in Croatia’s renewable energy plans and its goal of 88 percent renewable electricity production by 2050.
JA Solar has been chosen as the supplier of project’s high-performance DeepBlue 4.0 Pro modules. The infrastructure will interconnect with the 110kV transmission grid via the existing TS 33/110kV Korlat substation. This interconnection secures cost-effective energy delivery as soon as the project is operational.
Significant Advancements in Renewable Energy
The Korlat solar photovoltaic project symbolizes a historic starting point of Croatia’s energy transition. As the country moves towards a sustainable future, this initiative highlights its intended dedication to utilizing renewable resources.
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković further described the significance of the project, saying.
“The project is a critical part of the country’s energy transition.”
This program is specifically designed to get us off of fossil fuels. It stimulates the economy by creating jobs and leading technological advancement within the booming renewable energy industry.
International Collaboration and Local Impact
The Korlat project is a model for future international cooperation in renewable energy, especially between China and European countries. The participation of JA Solar is emblematic of the technological know-how that’s been brought in from a growing list of international partners.
Chinese Ambassador Qi Qianjin commented on the promise of this partnership in saying,
“The project demonstrates the strength of China–Croatia cooperation in renewable energy and will contribute to local economic development.”
This unique partnership is illustrative of a broader commitment to tackle the climate crisis and increase America’s energy security with innovative solutions.
Commitment to Sustainability
While the scale of this project is certainly significant, the true importance lies in it being a bellwether of greater efforts combined towards a sustainable future. Aiqing Yang, the executive president of JA Solar, expressed pride in contributing to such a landmark initiative:
“We are proud to support this landmark project with our most advanced PV technology. The Korlat project reflects our commitment to enabling a more sustainable future through innovation and global collaboration.”
Construction has just begun on the Korlat solar photovoltaic (PV) project. Scheduled to start operations in 2026, this nine-project pipeline represents Croatia’s dedication to increasing the share of renewable energy installed in the country. It heralds a new way to supply our nation’s energy needs. Besides that, it will be a use case for future renewable energy projects.
